Planet Earth HD DVD- How cheap?

Just wondering if anyone has it and how cheap you got it for. I'm looking for the hd dvd version. Only place i can find it on is i love films, £40.40.

I checked amazon uk, new and used buyers, thats were you get all the american sellers, but none are selling hd dvd yet, but the blue ray version they want £54.

On the week of release the hd dvd and blue ray both sold out before release, hd dvd ranked at number 5 and blue ray was number 7, and this was for all dvd sales combined. This was on the amazon usa site, shame they both ran out of copies would have been good to see if they could have climbed higher. Just shows you, if you have the right film/doc , they will buy them.

Movietyme are selling the US HD-DVD for £41.99, customs friendly at least in the years I've been using them.

I has a uk addy and the lack of any real contact information and so many empty links screams out warning signals although at best it's a front for a single person operation who is acting as a middle man hence the very basic website and Paypal use.
There are US discs on offer since some of them are HD/DVD combos and judging from the lack of a few UK editions they may also be overseas imports.

P&P is included according to the the page you linked too.

I've just received my Planet Earth HD DVD from Movietyme, absolutely amazing by the way, well worth £41.99.

Hold on, does this mean that the BBC has jumped into the HD-DVD camp?

The US have the series on both formats.

Hopefully the UK version will run at the correct speed of 25fps as opposed to the 24fps used in the US version (4% slowdown).

Finally shelled out £40 for the box set and woo hoo, the screen ratio is 16:9, no god damn borders. I really hate borders, i dont understand why i have shelled out nearly £2000 on equipment, tv, xbox + hd add on, just to watch a film that is not full screen. There should be an option to choose your ratio .

I have 6 films

1 x 16:9
2 x 2:4:1
3 x 2:35:1

Just wondering why there isn't a set ratio if there going to allow only 1.

Movies are made at the discretion of the director since as you would expect it is his movie and for the same reason his choices on other aspects of the movie are also an individual decision.

The reason we have widescreen TV's at 16:9 is down to technology and economics were as the ratios for movies is down to artistic choices. TV production has settled on the 16:9 format since it makes economic sense and unlike cinema that can show really wide pictures the domestic TV viewing audience can not unless they have projectors.

The argument would be that you have spent all that money on display hardware why would you then want to crop the movie and lose part of the picture to suit the display surely you would want to see exactly what the director intended

End of the day it all comes down to choice, and i really dont like 1 inch top and bottom not being used. Planet earth looks fantastic in 16:9 and i just wish you got the option thats all.

Back to planet earth, recent sales state that the second week of release planet hd dvd was #1 and blu ray #2 for all hd sales and as of tuesday this week the hd dvd version was still at #4 in amazons top selling dvds including all sd dvd sales.

Blu ray still has lead of 60-40 in terms of sales in the hd market. I think that may shrink with the release of the matrix trilogy 22/05/07.
