I sat down last night to watch Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive recorded earlier from BBC Three.

About ten minutes into the show, the picture froze and music started playing over the frozen image. It soon became apparent this was a recording of Radio-effin-MusicShop!

I've had this once before when watching in chase-play when viewing switched from BBC One to ITV4, despite the display telling me I was still watching BBC One.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if anyone knows why it's happening?

Stuff like this happens occasionally to me, best method to fix it is to power on and off, or leave it and hope your recording works, then power on and off.

Whats causing it? I'm not sure i've had my box for about 3 years and suspect its either heat or a corrupt recording in the history messing with the buffer. I had a recuring problem a few months back so cleared a lot of the history and the problem went

Saying that it only happens occasionally so doesn't worry me.

I've tried powering off and on - but like you said wasn't too worried as it was the first time in ages it's done it...

...until last night I had a similar problem again. Sat down hoping to watch a recording of Trouble At The Chateau on Channel 4, and instead got the programme's full sound, but with a frozen image of BBC News 24.

I've cleared a lot of stuff off the hard disk recently, so there's not much left to remove.

I suppose it might be coincidence it's happened twice within a week, but now worried it could be a fault... and I'm only a few weeks away from the warranty expiring.

I've had it too, just last week, though in my case BBC1 becomes Sky Sports News, but the guide insists that it is BBC1.

I had mine on when it did that, so I rewound the buffer, and it revealed a ghostly image of a 'sporty' person's outline (like beaming down, Star Trek-style!) overlaid on to BBC1. Then the picture became blocky; and with a diagonal 'wipe' effect, it was suddenly Sky Sports News.

I put it down to impulse noise, like the fridge-freezer switching on.

Interesting theory... I wonder if my problems could be caused by my new dishwasher changing cycles.

It could well be. I've also noticed my Bosch dishwasher switching to a different phase sometimes affects the picture on the Thomson (slight blocking of picture). Probably the heater relay switching in and out.

My previous Hoover dishwasher sometimes caused the old Pace Ondigital box to go wonky.
