lcd tv speakers
I want a 17" lcd tv for the bedroom, but those I've looked at have pretty tinny sound. I don't mind buying a couple of speakers, but I'd like these to be be controllable from the tv remote.
It seems I can use the headphone socket but other equipment I've tried this with doesn't really have enough power to drive speakers. I'm not looking for high quality, just the equivalent of a normal CRT set. Any help appreciated |

Obviously the size of the TV limits the size of the speakers, so LCD's and Plasma's usually have pretty poor sound - and certainly a 17 inch one is going to!.
Headphone sockets only output a limited amount of power, as it's all that's required for headphones - but you could always use computer speakers which have an amplifier inside. |

A lot of TVs have audio out via a pair of RCA Connectors (red & white). You will need to check though that the audio out is variable (not fixed) to be able to control from the remote volume.
You can then feed this to a Hi-fi, surround sound system or for a cheap option a pair of active speakers. |
