For GPS only systems garmin are pretty good and I think are one of the larger sellers. Have a look on their main site for products at http://www.garmin.com/outdoor/ there should be a resellers page for the uk on the site if you spot anything you like.

Failing that you might want to opt for something like a compaq (now HP) iPaq(http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/eng.../handheld.html) and external GPS card (http://pandi.itrc.hp.com/busprod/pocketpc/options/gps/).
These will have the functionality you are looking for in a standard PDA plus the GPS card will give you all the extra stuff that you need. Although it might work out more expensive that buying a cheap bottom range palm and a cheap gps system.

If you don't know much about them, then I would suggest going to a local retailer in your area and getting some demos of systems, then looking on the net for a cheaper version of the sysytem that you want

All the best,

Jon

You can get Handspring Visor's for bargain prices now which have Springboard expansion slots for a Magellan GPS module, as well as various other expansion options such as a GSM phone, digicam etc.

I don't think the module is available commercially anymore, I'm not sure. Certainly they crop up on eBay though. Depending on where you buy the module you get a CD that have maps of your country on it that you HotSync to your handheld and they work with the GPS system so you can plan where you want to go and how to get there.

Dabs are selling the GPS navigation add-on for the Compaq iPaq for £300 now. that's a saving of nearly £250.

Of course you will need to buy an iPaq to go with it! (assuming you haven't got one already)
