Hi there

Sadly had to leave HomeChoice due to a move outside their area.

They confirmed that they will be going national over the next few months, with a new High Definition box with PVR.

:O)

From the sounds of things it will be a seperate modem and STB so you'll be able to know whats running.

According to Stuff Magazine (May 2007 page 44) the new box will have 160 GB hard drive for recording programmes, will support hi definition and it also incorporates a broadband modem and wireless router.

From the picture it looks quite different to the current box.

Looks very intersting.

Tiscali may launch this year, then again they may not! Considering they have been launching in January - February - March - April - now July??

Yeah i'll believe it when i see it!

Plus their prices are ludicrous!!

They have been running a test in 30,000 homes in inner London for the last 5 months and still cannot get it working properly.

The new box has always been scheduled for July, the rebrand was scheduled for Feb, and happened in Feb.

I guess Tiscali are waiting for the new box (and/or roll-out in new areas) before launching/advertising the service fully to new customers. I've got to commend them for that, at least it sounds like they're trying to get it right first time!

I assume the the 30,000 homes are their existing customers. Like me. The existing service works perfectly well.

The new box will be ADSL 2+ I hope. The specs 160Gb, HD, wifi are as you would expect - its the same basic STB that all companies use with either a cable, ADSL or satellite modem.

I hope it will be July but this is now at least a year late, but once we've waited this long hopefully the service will be worth it.
I have superb 1080p projector waiting for it.

I'm still undecided about keeping HC when I move house in a couple of months. My line has been down 4-5 days a month on average for each of the past 6 months. They won't quite say what the problem is, but it's clear it's specific to my line.

If I move house and get a new Tiscali TV account then I'll be on the new Tiscali system, which isn't as good as the old HC one was. Is this right, or totally unfounded?

At present, other than trialists for Tiscali IPTV, all other TV customers are on the old Homechoice network so, providing you go to a servicebale area, you will be on the same network. May be worth double checking first though as if you live in an area that would eventually fall under the IPTV network, you won't be offered the service on the old network - confusing? yes!
