The TV Week Logie Awards (the equivelant of our National TV Awards in the UK) have just finished down under.

Home and Away stole the night, winning

Logie Award for Best Continuing Drama Serial

Best New Talent (Amy Matthews aka Rachel Armstrong)

Best Actress, known as the "silver logie" (Kate Ritchie aka Sally Fletcher)

And Most Popular Person on TV, known as the "Gold Logie" (Kate Ritchie aka Sally Fletcher)

Well done to Home and Away, which always does failry well at this ceremony, and to Kate for finally getting the recognition she deserves!

Many UK viewers assume that because H&A is seen here as a "daytime soapie", that it is the same in Australia. In fact, it's Australia's most popular drama, almost always in the top 3 in the ratings. (Neighbours rarely gets in the top 20)

Maybe it's time all the people on these forums who regularly watch EE and Corrie, only to complain about them, gave somethig else a chance?

Well done to Home and Away although I wish I was saying that about Neighbours!

Isn't All Saints and McLeods the top dramas?

Neighbours didnt have much of a chance with who was nominated. Natalie Blair for a gold Logie? She's good but stars such as Jackie Woodburne are much more deserving. I believe Jackie to be one of the best actresses on television, she is fantastic - she should be up and then Neighbours may actually win something!

Although I assume Home and Away has 'EastEnders; factor down under with votes etc...

So so pleased for Kate! I'm shocked about the Gold Logie though as I thought it would go to Rove. I'm glad Kate got it though It's great that she is finally starting to get the recognition she deserves...about time too!

Well EE gets higher ratings than other shows but that certainly doesnt mean it's better.

I'm pleased for Home and Away. At least it's getting the recognition it deserves in Australia if not the UK.

I have to say well done to Kate, as she has been in the show a long time.

Neighbours didn't real stand a chance, as it's had a tough time and a drubbing from all sides. It's on the mend though.

The logies are very much voted for by the younger crowd, so the young cast members always seem to win.

Only because Neighbours is currently on BBC1. Now that the BBC looks set to lose Neighbours, I hope that five will acquire it so that both soaps can be on the same channel. Only then can we have fair ratings comparison.

May also have something to do with the fact that Home and Away is a better show than Neighbours.

Doubt it Neighbours rules... HAA is overhyped crap which has no beliveability whatsoever... 'tune in to see who may be dying this week'

I totally agree. Home and Away has the teenage populist factor that EastEnders has here. Neighbours is a character piece with fab drama and comedy. Nothing can happen in an episode and it is still bloody entertaining.

Home and Away has been dominating these awards for a good few years now. Neighbours is very much the poor relation in Australia, they must be wondering why on earth it's causing such a huge bidding war over here at the moment!

Personally, I prefer Neighbours and always have. But you just can't deny what a slick, well produced piece of work Home and Away is right now.

I'm just looking foward to the massive overhaul that will be happening with Neighbours over the coming months; by the end of this year we're going to have a show totally revitalised and one that will finally be ready to give Home and Away a real run for it's money in Australia.

Stay tuned to Neighbours, this year is going to be one of the show's best ever.

It's true that many teenagers vote in these awards. However, just like our NTAs, it is not exclusively the case. A wide spectrum of the public vote.

Furthermore, neither Amy Matthews nor Kate Ritchie have ever been the "hot new thing" on H&A, while some of their competitors for the award clearly were. They won on acting talent alone.

H&A loses the plot now and again, but it always comes back to its roots - the characters. It is deeply character driven at the moment, and even though it relies (and why not?) on big events to draw the audiences in, it is its character focus, witty writing, humour, and emotionally driven storylines that keep them tuning in the next night, and the next, and the next...
