this is great. I think Lee is not on borrowed time, its interesting to find that I was right on the feeling they are all getting contradictary advise.

I wonder what he meant by Daniel suprised him with?

The public, should know the panel even Andrew have favourites and zoe should stop playing faves week in week out. She also doesnt seem to have enough of a background to help these guys. BTW if they want to be Joseph try not missing lyrics on the opening number.

Lets hope they all have sat together and decided on what songs they all would like to hear from each to show the versatility and other sides. but i know wishful thinking

There's been a lot of contradictions on this show.

Seamus gets criticised for not appearing as arrogant and unlikeable, and then the next week, the judges are criticising Daniel for being too nice and not being arrogant enough.

We see Seamus being criticised for not taking direction enough, and now ALW is criticising Lee for listening to his highers.

ALW is worried about Daniel not being edgier enough, so he gives him McFly to sing. He worries about Craig being cabaret, so he gives him one of the cheesiest songs alive.

Certain people get heavily criticising for forgetting lines or hitting flat notes, while others don't.

ALW talks about wanting a poppy Justin Timberlake Joseph and then criticising some of the boys for being too poppy.

Last year with Maria, I felt they were consistent with what they wanted from the Marias. I knew exactly what they were looking for. This year, what they want seem to want from Joseph seems to change from week to week, depending on what best suits their favourites. How can the public decide who is the best Joseph, if no one can decide what is wanted from Joseph

Last year ALW said he wanted a contemporary Maria, to change peoples' perception of the role away from the iconic Julie Andrews image.

And what did we end up with? Connie who is more Julie Andrews than Julie Andrews!

Well before Daniel performed on Saturday ALW said he wasn't sure he really had charisma, but after his performance he said he did. So maybe that was it.

I also agree - ALW made it most clear his doubts about Daniel and his charisma early on from the week in training, but that is what surprised AWL that he took everything on board what he said, and when the other judges were a little 50/50 about Daniel AWL interjected and defended and praised him highly.

The other comments I totally agree with AWL - Keith was amazing - well done!

I have always had worries about Lee which seem to keep coming through more and more, now in his performance, stance and attitude - I do feel Lee may have always been used to family and friends continually telling him how good he is - I have seen this go on so much with artists and it does them more hard than good, people close should always be constructive in a warm friendly way.

It seems to me that Andrew is saying that Lees problem is the fact that he does listen to others and does take the advice of the professionals willingly. (No evidence of an attitude problem there to me, seems to be a great attitude to have in my opinion.)

What annoys me is even if Lee had done what Andrew had wanted him to do. The judges would have criticised him for not taking aboard the professionals advice. Seems that he was in a no win situation.

What Lee is being hit by is something quite natural in these kind of shows. Because of his age and experience he was able to show what he could do pretty much from the off, as was Daniel. What the producers think that we want to see is some kind of "journey". They will promote this and that's when the less experienced will begin to make up ground. If no journey is naturally going to happen for a contestant they will try and find one. Giving Lee and Daniel a hard time without a great deal of reason was a way of doing that, so was suddenly giving Keith a song which he could do easily. It's also an easy way to influence votes- look at how Keith's popularity has increased, and it's what they were really saying to Lewis- come on, let's see some kind of development from you.

If I'm right next week they will be telling Daniel and Lee that they are back on form, and giving Lewis the first song which really gives him a major chance. Meanwhile they have made quite sure that Keith isn't going anywhere just yet.

Very interesting film - thanks for the link. Personally I think it does Lee good to have a 'dip' at this stage. If he has too easy a ride every week the viewers will resent him for it. Not that I thought it he did 'dip', by the way. Does anyone read the critic in 'The Stage' blog? I don't know how to set up the link but recommend it. He thought Keith showed Lee up - Lee was unlucky to be paired with arguably the performance of the night (and easiest song). On this film, I felt that ALW was defending Lee rather than that he was on 'borrowed time'. I'd certainly rather be Lee, Lewis, Daniel or Keith watching this than one of the others. It sounds like they are his top four, with Craig snapping at their heels.

As for the general inconsistency, I think that's natural with 5people's opinions - I bet if there were 5 of us on we'd all say different things. For me, the only comments that matter are ALW's. He's the only one who can decide who is going in the sing off. I'd much rather have negative comments from the judges and ALW's support, like Daniel did, than positive comments from the judges and 'I'm worried' from ALW, as Ben did.

And they all need to be able to take criticism and knocks to have a chance - what if the critics decide to tear them apart on the opening night, as they might do? We need to see how Lee, Daniel and Lewis handle some negativity, especially if they are not likely to be in the bottom two soon. Chris couldn't cope with being in the bottom 2, in my opinion. Ben isn't the stongest performer (yet), but I think he has a terrific attitude. I think if Lee can take the (completely unjustified) 'rubbish' comment, that will impress everyone - most importantly the voters.

Huh? He thinks Lee is inexperienced cos he listened to other people? Surely that's a sign of experience, that he recognises he isn't almighty and others can give him advice? Gah, I don't really understand ALW anymore! "It's now early days..." but its week 4!!! Not so much early days anymore!
Daniel surprised him how? By being the same as he has every other week?
I've been thinking for a few weeks that a lot of what the judges say is to do with creating controversy and getting people to vote... generally, the person they slam the most gets through without being in the bottom two, so I'm suspicious that maybe it's all to do with getting the money in. I guess it goes to a good cause.
Negative comments are also what some people need I guess... gives them a kick up the backside to think "okay, I'll prove I can do this!" I think it's worked well for Keith.

I don't think you can have been really paying attention if you think Daniel's performances of Kelly Clarkson and Frank Sinatra songs were the same.......maybe a quick trip to the optician and a new battery for your hearing aid would help?

I just found them both a bit uninspiring, didn't grip me like other performances have. Keith this week really made me sit up and take notice. I thought the Kelly Clarkson song was awful, and the Frank Sinatra in no way a patch on the original and just standard swing fare. In fairness to him, he's been getting a lot of bland songs which sound alright on the radio which don't transfer to stage well.

The Lady is a Tramp is actually a musical number from Babes in Arms (Rogers & Hart) and is a female performance. The song was simply adopted by Frank and others.

Much as I thought Keith was vocally amazing there wasn't much acting to be done with that song and I am sure the rest of the boys would have been just as good although perhaps not so vocally perfect. I am smelling a rat here with what ALW picks for the song choices or maybe this is the same with all the reality singing shows and have never noticed before

I didn't know that it always amazes me how many songs that have sort of become common place and sort of "mainstream" originated from musicals in the first place... You'll Never Walk Alone is the strangest... someone should sing that this year, it would annoy Bill Kenwright if nothing else!

I think he's aware that Daniel sticks out like a sore thumb among the others (with a couple of exceptions) and he needs to be tested week after week to make some of the others seem to be anywhere near on the same level.

I think that is why he came to Daniel's defence when the other judges, Denise and John in particular, said that they wanted to see another side of him. Daniel has been given the most varied styles and has pulled off every song (even allowing for orchestra mishaps) and Andrew said as much on the show. Quite frankly, John and Denise were made to look ridiculous on Saturday's show. There is no amount of money in the world that would tempt me to sell my professional credibility like that.
