Mr S did say 'he isn't exactly graceful, he's a pretty big chap' but seemed quite chuffed at the prospect. He and little Master S seem to love ole Shane Son's always saying 'Ball and Shane' in a daft Aussie accent. Why ?



I almost feel that Erin and Anton have had their shot now but realise it would be sacrilege to suggest they don't return. Matt and Nicole Cutler fans would be appalled if they weren't back, but they haven't really had the chance to engage with the 'viewing public' (rather than us SCD obsessives ) Hmmm, its an interesting one ....

Plus Ian Waite you dont imagine they would leave him out.

Whenever he bowls a good ball Adam Gilchrist the Aussie keeper would say "Bowled Shane" now he says this all day!

Sorry the pesky weather spoiled your day I was going to spend all day in a friend's garden (while Mr S did her garden for her - we were going to watch in a supportive and encouraging manner) - it bl**dy well rained, so we were cooped up inside, couldn't do the 'girly' bit cos Mr S was with us, so were home by lunchtime. Damn the English Bank Holiday weather!

Anyhoo, what's everyone else thinking re SCD5 pro possibilities?

PS - Oo, Angus Deayton. Interesting ... Shouldn't think he'd take 'instruction' v well tho'. Very egocentric these 'media' types!

One of the professionals who did not return after series 1 was John Byrnes. The reason there was that he has his own dance school full time and was asked to be the consultant to the BC for series 1. He took that on but as his wife was very pregnant at the time it was a strain on him, having had to leave Jane to run the business by herself. So he decided he could not commit the time to it for a second time and leave his school so he declined to appear again. Then Ian replaced him for series 2 onwards and has done a fabulous job.

Kylie Jones didn't return to compete, and neither did Hanna Kartunnen-she may have been traumatised after partnering Chris Parker.

I really hope that Matt, Nicole, Darren, Lilia, Ian and Karen return. After that I'm not really bothered either way.


I don't have strong feelings for all of them, but I do think for comedy value they should pair up Greg and Nicole- I think he must be at least a foot taller than she is

Agree with what you say about Sian & Brendan ... not to mention Sian is way too similar to Natasha. But I wouldn't put it past the BBC, look at Brendan's partners in past series ...

I'd go along with you Slinky. I think there should be a limit to the number of appearances anyone professional is allowed to make on SCD. But they would only dispense with Anton on Erin if they had suitable Ballroom specialists available and willing to appear in their place.

My own thoughts are that there will definitely be a couple of changes, as it is one of the simplest of means to inject change and try to freshen up the show. Otherwise, the same line-up of professionals might give the impression of it being rather samey and they may even come to be regarded as old fixture and fittings.

And I can't see them adding to the number of couples as 14 is probably the limit.

Agree with every word You may be right re Karen - there was quite a lot of talk a while back about her moving over to the judging side of things. It'd certainly be hard to top her SCD achievements so far.

I spose in a way Anton and Erin are almost as much SCD fixtures as Brucie and Tess. Or ARE they?!

I would love Karen to be a judge, replacing either Arlene or Bruno. If she doesn't come back as a dancer, they'll have an odd number of couples, unless they find someone new for Brendan to dance with. I wonder if the BBC would hang on to Brendan at all costs or if they would decide not to invite him back.

I know Anton and Erin are the only ballroom specialists, but since Vincent and Flavia are ten dancers and I think Ian has done ten dance in the past as well, I'm not sure it's an argument for keeping Anton and Erin on. IMO the latin dancers generally cope better crossing to ballroom than vice versa anyway.

I actually hope they just keep the same pro line-up, everyone has some they like better than others but they all have pretty big fanbases by now so if any leave then lots of people will be upset.

Am 99.9% certain Karen will be back, Mark said she had already been talking to the beeb about who she gets.

When I spoke to Nicole was certainly under the impression she would be returning.

I think Darren is a little shy - I would love to see her with Vincent - I think they could win

Well footygirl, I make the following comments with all the usual caveats and qualifiers in place (essentially that I know bugger all and your guess is as good as mine!!!).

I think Sian Williams must be paired with Vincent. I think I read here somewhere that she is quite short at only 5 ft or so. I believe they will be a good pairing but will not get beyond week 7 or 8. She is 41 and you know what I think about anyone over the age of 40.

Greg is 6 ft 4" and so must be paired with either Erin or Camilla. Again O.K. but lack of popularity (relatively speaking) for Camilla and Erin plus doubts about bulky Gregs ability to dance, imply they will be no more successful than Peter in SCD4.

Debra - have no idea who she is. But if some of the comments about her are true then she could be the Jill Halfpenny of SCD5. Anyone know how old she is and how tall?

Gaby most likely paired with Brendan. Not keen on either so my prejudiced self would like to see them eliminated in the first week. Very unlikely, simply because of Brendans loyal following. In this event, and assuming Gaby can dance well they may well reach the semis or even the final. However, I doubt they will prove popular with the majority of viewers and so expect (and hope) there is a more popular couple to emerge and thus save me the tortuous ordeal of watching them being announced as winners!! (Now don't be upset Brendan fans, this is a tad tongue-in-cheek, just a tad mind you).

As for Steve - good pairing with Karen but unlikely to get beyond quarters simple because I doubt his dancing ability. An even with Karens following, if you not one of the top 4 or 5 dancers you will not progress to the latter stages.

However, I do have my doubts about Steve appearing. I watched the clips of him talking about SCD and, maybe I am just to gullible and am prone to take people at face value, but he convinced me with his denials.

Debra is mid 30s (if not younger) - I would say approx 5ft 6ish - very attractive - always comes across as very pleasant (on the telly - I have never met her) she appeared in Coronation street for several years (her character Frankie had a fling with Ray's character - hope this makes sense )

That's interesting Dippy. Do the professionals have input as to which celebs they are paired with. I was under the impression that the pro/celeb partnerships are decided by BBC producers. And that the pros are unaware who they have been partnered with right up until they meet them for the first time.

It would be odd if the pros were able to dictate who they wanted from the list of celebs signed on.
