Do you think they add to the performance of the contestants or distract?

I sometimes find it quite odd and distracting having them on stage. But perhaps I am the only one.

I know they are supposed to be "dummies/props" but I not sure they are really that good. but i am no expert...also I swear one of them is the double for Carrie Grant (Fame academy).

I've thought the exact same thing! I find them a bit off putting and pointless at times, especially during ballads when they just tend to wander up and down the stage pursued by one of the Josephs. I've never much seen the point in dancers for ballads, it just doesn't work. A lot of the Josephs also don't seem to know what to do with the dancers a lot of the time, which only further makes them seem a bit superfluous (ooo long word! love that word!)

Sometimes they're okay but other times they're annoying and don't add anything. They're used too much imo, I don't remember there being so many during Maria.

I agree that sometimes they can be a tad pointless however I think using them is a good idea as on stage Joseph will have to interact with others.

It would be no good therefore to vote for someone to win who can sing but doesn't know what to do when you plonk someone else in front of them.

It makes it fun to see who can work them into the song and who can't!

They can look a bit wooden, and I had to laugh on Saturday when Daniel (not, apparently, the tallest guy in the world) was with a dancer considerably bigger than him - I swear at one point he was on tiptoe.

I thought they were rather pointless and annoying at first - but Daniel seems pretty good at working them into his songs (on tiptoe or not! )

I thought his Lady is a Tramp routine was excellent!

I agree.......I wasn't meaning any criticism of Daniel, who is my favourite by a country mile.

I assume someone is choreographing these routines, as I wouldn't have thought the lads would be expected to do this. Actually, it would be interesting to see how the performance is put together - who decides the tempo, accompaniment, movement etc. Do the Josephs have much of a choice, I wonder?

Had a little chuckle at that, they could have picked a shorter dancer. I think Daniel always uses his 'prop' well (especially week 1, my most favorite performance, EVER!! of all time. EVER!!

Hee, I did not notice that. I'll have to watch it again.

Sometimes the dancers are good, and sometimes I just feel they get in the way. I mean it's a good idea to see how well the Joseph's can interact with others on stage, and it's a good way to getting them acting. But sometimes, especially during ballads, the dances just seem superfluous.

I agree - we need to see how they interact with other people on stage.

Yes they are distracting the Josephs - on purpose I suppose.

But I'd like Male dancers please.
Then I can get distracted

Haha, I better be careful what I say here. Speaking objectively, I have to admit that they are sometimes superfluous, even unnecessary. Speaking professionally, they are obviously very experienced, not girlies, and are very good at acting the part as well. Speaking as a male, I would miss them if they weren't there lol and they certainly add to my enjoyment of the programme - oh, and I have a favourite dancer as well! Haha!

Sometimes dancers are just not needed, but I do think they may help showing how the contestants for Joseph will cope with dance moves and activity around them, as for some of them would be winners it will be a baptism of fire if they win to the opening.

I do think in some numbers they could use a mix of female and male dancers.

Male dancers a la those from Chicago would be appreciated!!

I think they've put them in cos basically there is too much "maleness" on the show (for me that's become a tad boring now - they should have had a female presenter to balance it imo) & as others have said to show interaction.
It's nice that they are n't just gratuitous T&A imo or teenage lollypops. They are real women with nice bodies, that I think can actually dance.
The brunette one does look like a younger version of Carrie Grant . My fave is the Afro-Carribean dancer, she is very lush & has a wonderful butt . Hubby likes the blonde one though (when he can't get out of watching clips here & there).

Ah, so you know who my favourite is then. If I could work in the same building as her, I would pay them for it lol

I think it depends on;

a) If the Joseph is a good actor or not. Some of the Josephs look very wooden with the dancer(s).

b) Sometimes the dancers seem pointless and not in keeping with the song, they're doing there thing while the Joseph does his. This though may be related to a)!
