Repairing / replacing components in a DVD recorder...

Hello all,

I have a Goodmans GHDD177DVDR DVD Recorder that I got off my brother in law some time ago (so I can't return it to Goodmans) and it seems the DVD drive had died.

It still records fine much to my annoyance because I have almost 70gb of data I want to burn but the disk drive will not play anything or burn onto blank media.

I'm not really very well versed in DVD recorders but I was thinking of possible ways to save my footage.

Is it possible to remove the HD and plug it into my PC? that way I can get the video footage off of the hard disk.

This is just a shot in the dark really, I'm hoping some expert on here can offer some advice.

Cheers!

from previous posts about sky + then yes it may well be possible to stuff the hdd into a pc and recover the programs , might be worth looking into that as a start

The Goodmans will use a completely different file system.

If the DVD drive in the recorder is standard IDE then it may be possible to replace it with a standard PC drive, if not, then you're going to be pretty much screwed.

Thanks for the replies people.

Just to let you know I replaced the drive with a friend's Emprex burner and it works a treat!
