help, component lead problem

Hi,
I am helping my mate fit an lg plasma and a panasonic dvd/surround unit he has purchased. Well it all looks lovely but when the component cable is connected between the output of the dvd and the i/p at the rear of the screen the best i can achieve so far is only black & white image. we have checked that the r/g/b leads have not been crossed at either end but i am a bit at a loss as to where to go next with this, i would much prefer to have got no signal at all, i could have worked with that lol
any ideas welcome
thanks
Streekie

You may have to go into the players setup menu and pre-select a different video output, might be RGB.

thanks i'll have an answer to that tommorow.
i do know that the lg helpline he called suggested to revert to scart (which i thought a bit defeatist)
cheers

classic r.t.f.m. im afraid.
the dvd o/p on what is called av1 offers straight r.g.b. or video (with component) depending on selectable settings. so fixing it was nothing more than prising the manual off the owner for 5 mins of quiet time and a cup of gold blend. thanks anyway
