I posted this last night on the 'Alex on ITV' thread, maybe it does merit a thread of its own although I understand it's only a guest appearance, as team leader.

Alex will be on 'Boys and Girls' tonight, Saturday 12th, 10.30pm C4.
It is normally repeated the following Saturday at 11.50am C4.

Well...that's Alex's career going nowhere then.......that's the bottom of the reality TV ex-contestant barrel.......Although it is a bit out of Jonnie's reach......

and

is this show as bad as they say?

The only consolation would be, that Alex was probably booked ages ago. C4 thought the show was going to be a major hit back then.

This forum hits me with more depressing news each time I visit.

I shouldn't think Alex sees it as a major career move - just a bit of fun, more work and more exposure for him.
It's good that ITV / C4 keep thinking of him, shows that his profile is still high.
You're right Mesostim, I'm sure they didn't ask Jonny first.

Some of them just have to take what's offered, even if it is this dismal show. Beggars can't be choosers. They can't all be given contracts to host RI:SE now, can they.

It is absolute rubbish. Imagine 100 Jonnys and Alisons all desperate to get picked out of the audience. They only way they could improve the show is to install a machine-gun and train it on the wannabees. I might watch it then.

The only saving grace for Alex is that nobody with a brain cell could possibly watch it, so it probably won't do irreparable harm to his career. I think I'll wait for RR and WYWH to get my next Alex fix

I'm going to have to put my brain cell into cold storage for an hour or so tonight. I've never seen Boys and Girls and I don't doubt that it's every bit as bad as you say, Swing, but, having only terrestrial TV, I haven't had a fix of Alex for some time and I just don't think I can hold out till Tuesday. I'm sure this is not going to be the highlight of Alex's career but it might just be the highlight of my Saturday night. I know, I'm a sad case.

boys and girls isnt that bada show. its just the fact that it is on channel 4 that its got a bad rap because it hasnt been as inventive as bigbrother and the salon. plus having the most interesting part of the show played around 11ish on friday nights doesnt help. still he could have sunk low enough to have the cheek 2 replace edith on rise

I go along with this anon, especially the fun bit.
I've only ever seen bits of this show walking past the tv and it does appear to be good fun if one is actually involved in it as opposed to watching it.
For tv it is off though.

LOL, I can't agree more. I was going to record and watch it with my finger on the fast forward button for non-Alex bits. I've just read on Alex's site that Alex will be with 2 old friends (Vernon and Orla), now I'm bit curious and may watch it a bit more carefully to spot his friend Orla. Sad, I know, but whatever.

Despite what I said I might watch it as well if only to come on here and say how awful it was !!!

Definitely one for the fast forward though

I've never seen the show before and never planned to but I'm going to video it tonight. And I understand from Alex site that if you switch over to E4 immediately afterwards he'll be on there too. Hooray! I've missed him since OTH ended.

thanks custard..........Which might explain why he agreed to go on this, oft-condemned as cheesy, show -- for a bit of fun as a gesture of support for old friends. Rather than out of any sort of desperacy as some speculated.

ps. how interesting especially as we recently discussed in here about whether him and Vernon were friends

I think the Angels have brainwashed me!!
I'm actually watching this awful show and I think Alex is quite good. The only thing I've seen him on was that Shooting Stars thing and I cringed, but he seems much more assured and his voice has lost that whiny tone.

Am I ill or something?

I'm so disappointed in Alex doing this dreadful show.
What an offensive and degrading programme, I watched for 15 uncomfortable mins before I had to turn over.
I didn't see Alex but I don't care.

And I thought Kate was desperate doing RI:SE

I still think I'll make the doctors appointment. This is most worrying

Good job my feelings about Sandy are the same. I really would be worried if they changed!!

I think this is the first time I'm attempting my powers of persuasion on you FQ......

I agree yes, it is a very tacky kind of show, but...........

I rather enjoyed Alex's performance within the context of the nature of the show. He was very much in the 'laddish' spirit of it and came across very well I thought.....very stylish both in appearance and manner.

Also from an image POV, it's not such a bad thing.
He was tackling a demographic ie. the 'loaded/fhm-type lad/ladette crowd' that one might not consider were natural fans of his, given that Alex-haters during BB3 frequently cited his 'lack of macho-masculinity' as a reason for disliking him (and eg Domestos saying he wasn't blokey enough for them), and claiming that the only men who would like him are gay men etc, and instead preferring Spencer for his perceived blokiness.

Alex was very masculine (and cool with it too) tonight and I think he'd have confounded that (IMO rather unfair) image of him. He has shown he can be as blokey as the rest of them, and who knows might have won over many of that male demographic who had thought of him otherwise. Plus, he got the lads to win after apparently a run of losing -- I'm sure they'll think he's a great guy after that!

So in conclusion -- I think his appearance on BAG was a good thing, leaving aside the fact that I welcome any opportunity to see him on our screens.
Are you persuaded yet?

ps. Please catch the repeats if you can. (perhaps best watched accompanied by pizza and some alcohol)

btw, did anyone else spot the 'Tuesday' guy at the end doing the chicken dance as part of his routine? Aaarghhhh!!!!

I have to agree with everything you said mystic.

At first I did think, OK, it's not the best show to appear on but it's good exposure etc.

Having watched C4 and E4 - I do hope most people watched E4 also as there was more of Alex on this - I have to say I actually enjoyed both in the context of what they are.

Alex did, as you said, come across as 'laddish' and masculine, certainly stylish, he was also relaxed and totally himself, maybe more so than any show I have seen him on so far since BB.
I found myself smiling along with him as usual, in particular the 'Kate' - 'who?' and 'just laugh at all her jokes' advice - hopefully he has converted a few admirers who were not before and on balance it was definitely the right decision to do Boys and Girls.

Did anyone manage to watch it to the end ?

What a load of rubbish

I was flicking between this and Parky and managed to catch Alex " That's the way, ha, ha "

He did what he had to do and looked a lot less like a deer in the headlights than he has previously but all in all, a best forgotton episode in his rise to stardom
