Can't they use the internet?

Last night the contestants had a lot of trouble identifying 'Nigella Seeds'. Today I Googled the name into the computer and hey presto, there was an explanation of what they are, with information about where to get them. Apparently Waitrose supermarket sell them, as do some international food retailers. Unless the contestants aren't allowed to use the internet I can't understand why nobody thought to go down this route.

The voiceover said words to the effect of: "With only the Yellow Pages to work with..." So I guess not.

Couldn't they have gone into a bookshop and looked in a dictionary?

I suppose they are being followed by camera crews all the time though personally i would have made a sneaky call to someone while i was "paying a call".

Or texted 63336 with the question and got an answer for a quid. That could be done very surrepticiously.

That was my thought, and I googled too after silently yelling at the telly "find an internet cafe!". Mystery solved straightaway.

What's the point of trying to make it as "real" as possible if they ban them using the internet? It's an absolute essential part of modern life, this isn't Castaway or BB.

Daft rule IMO.

It seems crazy that they couldn't Google it. That's part of everyday research. They didn't even need to go to an internet café, they could have just used their phones! Really sorry Adam is gone and Katie got her wish.

They could have used one of those Amstrad internet phones.

Hang on a mo, I clearly remember Syed hunched over a PC monitor in the house when prepping a task during the last series.

Have they changed the rules or something?

Arent they allowed their own mobiles either?

I always stick things into Google on my phone...couldnt be that hard to smuggle one in!

I remember during one of the earlier tasks, the one with Rory as team leader, candidates were using an internet cafe in Waterloo for research purposes.

Given the modern technology of today I am sure the phones that the candidates are give are web enabled. However as we saw with the fines to both teams, if you don't follow the rules you get punished.

Personally I would take the word seeds as a hint to what the are likely to be used for. Either cooking or planting, either one would have lead to some clue as to what they are. Mind you as we saw with Ghazal, Nigella Seeds are probably the Western name for them and probably why she didn't recognise them.

They probably are allowed to use the internet but only using Amstrad technology - can't really blame them for sticking with their fisherprice phones and big yellow phonebooks then eh!

They could have used their 'phone a friend option' Ring a mate, pretend you are talking to a supplier and get them to find out for you.
