Of course Adam contirbuted to the paintings - he was the one doing all the ringing around whilst Katie brown-nosed the artists - which SAS pciked up on. If Adam didn't have good negotiation skills, he wouldn't have sold the paintings in the previous task and as for time management, where exactly had he gone wrong with that (apart from certain people refusing to buy seeds of course)?

As for Katie playing around with Paul, it was affecting both their judgement with regards to treatment of other team-members as they were heavily biased.

Not knowing what you mean about Glenda Slagg style I'll just have to that comment ride. The c-stream boy was as I said before being ironic as that's what Katie called him. But you must admit , regardless of the intelligence of the school boy, it was a very childish response to his situation. He had just lost the project and surely knew his number was up and therefore also his chance of becoming the Apprentice, but what really irked him was not being able to go car racing - "That's my most favourite thing in the world" - if he had put "ever" at the end of it I would've fallen off my chair laughing.

Also he kept saying "it's just not fair" to lose by such a small margin. Well he was the PM and if he'd read the rules then he would have known that by not getting the seeds he then put himself in a worse financial position than if he had got them late. That's got nothing to do with "fair".

As for the art project if Katie had been able to pitch to the horses artist then they would have secured him and had his contacts list and the other team would've been with the lips artist (remember both teams wanted the same artists), unfortunately she wasn't given the chance. And I think that the PM told Adam to do the phone calls and even insisted he went back to it rather than help Lohit hang pictures, so that's not really him managing his time. And selling the pictures is not evidence of his ability to negotiate on price - we saw his ability to negotiate last week.

And in what way did Katie retaliate before Adam made it personal? Yes she made some pretty harsh comments to the camera, but how did that impact on Adam's performance?

As for the time management even SAS said picked up on that saying he should've allotted no more than an hour to it at the beginning. And as for people refusing to go and get them, then he should've insisted as the PM that they went (he gave in very easily) or gone himself - both of which he would've realised if he'd known that it would make him better off financially i.e. if he'd read the rules.

See above comment. He panicked and made a silly mistake; lots of people do. It doesn't mean he's "thick". Was Katie "thick" because, during Tre's task, she spent the afternoon canoodling with Paul instead of planning an evening 'business' and had to be bailed out by the others' busking idea? No, not really thick - a bit lazy, perhaps.


This is speculation - if Adam had pitched to the horse photographer without Natalie's daft comments in the background, maybe they'd have got him - or maybe Katie would have blown that particular benefit by schmoozing his customers rather than selling quite hard - as Kristina's team were shown to do. The pictures were on the wall to be sold - she failed to sell any and admitted to the camera that she had no idea how to go about it. Selling is not one of her skills and they needed to sell to win. So Adam didn't manage to persuade one particular man to sell his car battery for less; I don't think Katie would have shifted him either, though I admit she did well with the leg wax. I would contend that persuading someone to buy something worth several hundred pounds that they don't really need is harder than getting a few quid off some leg wax - but others may disagree. Both are useful skills and Katie's isn't inherently better (and certainly not as profitable).


That's precisely what I was referring to. I didn't claim it affected his performance. I do think her distraction with Paul affected her performance on occasions, though. And on some of those occasions, Adam was part of her team.

We don't actually know how much "funny business" they got up to. I suspect the media reports are exaggerated.

Katie may have thought, or hoped, that the other candidates would be professional enough not to bring it up, especially where it wasn't relevant.

Katie may not have been that surprised when they did. It probably just confirmed her already low opinion of Adam. Certainly it seemed to damage Adam far more than it damaged Katie in Sir Alan's eyes. (It might have damaged Paul, too, the previous week, but that's debatable.)

That's EDITING. Ok, Adam screwed up that negotiation. That was also the editors playing up interseeding with a clip of him talking about 'closing the deal' or something with him being useless. It makes good TV.

But he did eventually bargain a car battery, the leather trousers and another item, which were not shown on the footage so it looks as if he's failed completely (to coincide with the firing).

Also edited out of the France episode was Adam bargaining the banner down from 110 pounds to 85 from the very irate printer guy (although IMO they should have left the shop and not paid instead).

But why should Katie expect other competitors to turn a blind eye to her and Paul's 'flirtation'? You contend that it wasn't relevant, but from the shows I saw it did indeed appear to interfere with their performance in tasks (France and the gardening one spring to mind). I think it was in the gardening task that we first see her sticking her knife into Adam and his 'negativity' while giggling with Paul. The three of them were charged with coming up with an evening task and, as I recall, it was Adam who came up with something when Katie and Paul's the music-less DJing idea fell through. Was their relationship irrelevant? From what I saw, it certainly didn't help them to focus on the job in hand.

Katie is pretty quick to criticise - both to other apprentices and to Siralan - when she thinks others' performances are not up to scratch. Is she - and are they - unprofessional when they do this? Or are they just trying to gain an advantage in a competition?

Interesting. It sounds like Tre has said things at least as bad, but Katie upsets people more because of a class-based prejudice against her. Some of the "horse"-related comments also suggest such a prejudice.

It's a strange thread. Lots of outrage, yet when it comes down to specifics, it's a comment no worse than many in DS forums that no one takes objection to. Calling people "orange" is highly offensive? Taking the p out of car salesmen? "Chums"?

Specifics? What about Adam should go back from whence he came, return to his used car lot and hopefully get knocked over by one of the cars? Although to be fair, maybe she just intended a few broken bones and bruises rather than a fatal accident.

I doubt she actually intended anything of the sort.

The number of even supposedly offensive comments from her seems to be remarkably small, and to come down to a few things said about Adam that don't seem all that bad compared to many comments in these forums that don't cause much excitement. If she has any prejudice against "northerners" it doesn't seem to extend to Ghazal (or is she from too far north? ) or any worse than prejudices shown in this forum -- against Katie because she's middle class or "posh" or whatever, or against Ghazal because of her accent. (So far, I've seen Ghazal's accent mocked and someone wondering why they didn't subtitle her. )

Tre says the most objectionable things, uses foul language, is sexist, racist, crude, yet he is regarded benignly by many and as some sort of great contender or even hero, by some. Katie is not only seen to be of a particular class, but she is a woman and therefore judged and reviled for her looks more than her abilities. Adam's grim and unattractive looks did not stop people on here going to extremes of praise and adoration over him and his alleged attractiveness, for some strange reason. I've been struck too how she and Ghazal look so much alike in facial features, with their large beaked noses, strong jaws and profiles, yet there is a huge disparity in how they are perceived and described in terms of their looks.

There are plenty of comments on this forum that are far more objectionable.

The comment about orange, although there was some debate about what she actually said and what she meant by it, was clearly intended as a put-down and a way of dismissing Kristina.

I didn't see what was offensive about 'chums' as a word, but her comments about Northerners/ Northernness were offensive and condescending all the same.

I think attacking Katie's looks is pretty silly, but people tend to find those they like attractive, and those they dislike unattractive. Katie has said some spiteful things and is widely disliked and, for some, this extends to an attack on her appearance. If she was a popular character, generally viewed as being kind, supportive and likeable, I imagine people would be commenting on what nice eyes she has.

I think chums was in reference to "his own kind" which for some bizarre reason she clearly believed was riff raff.

Actually, no; I agree it was probably relevant on the occasions you mention. I contend that Katie would not have expected it to be raised where it wasn't relevant, and she didn't think it had been relevant.

I'd add that if it was relevant, there are right and wrong ways to raise it. Especially when Adam was project manager. For a PM to see a problem but keep quiet about it so as to have some ammunition for the boardroom is wrong.


It depends on when she does it. It seemed to me that this week, for instance, she spent a lot of time arguing against Kristina's ideas on the task. That's entirely appropriate.

I completely agree; and I think that's what Katie was doing too. She was verbally attacking Adam so she looked for details about him that she could disparage.

Look, no matter how much you try, you are going to find it difficult to present this woman in a favourable light.

Her actions and comments have not endeared her to the viewers, as most of us have encountered a 'Katie' at some point in our lives.
She is every school bully, every snooty shot assisstant, every rude and objectionable customer, we have encountered.

She may have some talents and abilities, although frankly I don't see her running Microsoft.

However, i can't see her ever being really successful because she does not command enough respect to compensate for the fact that she is so unlikeable.

She would always have massive turnover within any team she managed. At the end of the day, people want to work with others they like and respect, and generally they will not like and respect you unless you, in turn, like and respect them.

I find her very nasty. she finds something to pick on and magnify in others, and then uses this to demean them, and always behind their backs.

I think the comments on her appearance are fair game too, in all honestly, as she has been exceptionally rude about the appearance of others.

That is part of what saddens me. Grace in Big Brother got a similar treatment. She reminded viewers of someone they didn't like, so they didn't like her.

Katie hasn't bullied anyone. She isn't often rude to people, either.

I haven't any experience of school bullies, but she is not a bully, and she is nothing like a snooty shop assistant or a rude customer, nor is she unlikeable. On the contrary, she is charismatic, charming and draws people to her. They crowd around her, appreciate her, respect her, admire her strength, ability and intelligence and look up to her or defer to her.

Until they see what's she's actually like and then they tend to think like all but the apologists do.
