Hello experts,

just seen this offer. I'm certainly no expert on this matter, but as Aldi usually have good offers on I was wondering what you experts make of this model?

Any advice much appreciated

It's a cheap nasty set and will have a cheap and nasty picture - a decent quality set will be massively better!. If you're not worried about picture quality?, then fair enough, but the quality won't be good!.

We're mostly a Sony dealer, and we get people coming in (obviously) and saying "but I can get a 32 inch LCD from xxxxx for only £499, why are your's so much more expensive". So we actually stocked a couple of cheap LCD 32 inch sets (Digifusion's), and put them on display side by side with the Sony's and Sharp's.

The picture quality difference is absolutely HUGE, and when you point out that this is why the sets are so much cheaper, people buy the more expensive ones

However, we've now sold BOTH of the Digifusion's, I actually delivered one if them, it looked absolutely horrible!, but the customer seemed happy enough with it?. Even worse, it was bought by someone in the next village to me!, only about a mile away as the crow flys!.

Nigel are you saying all 'cheap' lcd tv's are crap and not worth having or just certain makes.

I'm looking for small set for bedroom and was just going for cheapie from tesco (19" lcd with freeview for £230).

Are you saying only big makes are worth getting?

For a small set you're not likely to see much difference, other than reliability and sound quality. Picture quality should be roughly similar.

We've got a Sony KDL20S2020 though and the picture quality is awesome.

I'm saying try them first and see if you are happy with the picture quality, if you are?, then DON'T compare it with an expensive set - because it will only upset you!.

In general expensive sets aren't just making extra profits, it's because they are better designs using better quality components (particularly the LCD panels) - although be aware than many 'big name' manufacturers often buy some of their models from the same cheap manufacturers as others do. Hitachi, Toshiba and JVC are three prime culprits for this!.

Thanks for your input Nigel, as Tony B only gave me 1.9% pay rise I'll be getting a cheapie lcd so will make a point of not looking at expensive sets . Bit of a shocker 3 big companies just rebadging other manufacturers gear.

Did look at technica 19" set in tescos and image and sound seemed ok, brightness 300 contrast 800 which is reasonable for this price range (from what I've seen anyway).

Thanks also telly man, but sony is too much cash at present moment.
