Hi all,

don't know if this is the right place for this, but hopefully someone can help.

The internal fuse in my satellite box has blown and I need to replace it. Living in France, I am not sure where to go to get new ones.

I have dismantled an old video recorder and it has two 2A 250V fuses in it. The decoder has a 1A 250V fuse it it. Would it be ok and safe to put a 2A 250V in place of the 1A 250V fuse?

technically you shouldnt , whether or not you would have a problem doing it is another matter

Looks like I will have to go on a search today for a proper one then. If my wife can't watch Eurovision tonight my life won't be worth living!!

The fuse probably blew for a reason, doing its job and protecting the circuitry in your box.

Replacing it with a higher value fuse without curing the underlying problem (if any) is a recipe for disaster.

In the UK you'd get one from the likes of Maplin Electronics. I'd assume there's a French equivelant.

Thanks, knew that anyway but suppose I was trying to be overly optimistic it would be fine.

Hopefully there was just a surge last night and that's what blew the fuse. Certainly wouldn't surprise me over here.

Nothing like Maplins unfortunately where I am, if I was in the Uk it would have been my first port of call.

Will pop out soon when teh shops have reopened for the afternoon and see if I can find a hardware shop that might sell them.

remember there are 2 types of internal glass fuses, quickblow and time lag type

So on the fuse should be an 'F' or 'T' or something similar to distinguish.

A timelag fuse is often used on the primary input so it can take a certain amount of initial surge when powering up the device.

Box is fine, seems to have been a problem with my TV though. When I switch it on there is a crackling noise coming from near the switch which then somehow fuses the digibox.

Needless to say I am not using the tv anymore, managed to borrow one from a friend.
