My Toshiba DVDR

Just a quick question.. got a Toshiba RDXS25
http://www.asda-electricals.co.uk/sh...p=rdxs25b&bi=0
and was wondering, as it has component connections on there apparently (haven't looked at the back really, just conected with scart) if i used these, would i get better picture quality? If so, could anyone direct me to the cables i would need (cheapest but good quality). Also i noticed it said, component is video signal only - how do i transfer the sound and could someone point me to these cables too?
I have the Toshiba 32WLT66 LCD which has all the required sockets i hope.

Many thanks all!!!

Component is no better than RGB SCART, if you want to try it and compare it, just try some old phono leads you have knocking about!. You would normally use two more phono connections for the audio.

Basically SCART is European, and Component is American, RGB is theoretically slightly better than Component, but there's no RGB quality sources available anyway!.

i see, i didn't realise that as every site for the dvd recorder i have seen says that component is for the best possible dvd quality to the TV.

If you use Component to the TV, the TV converts it to RGB itself, if you use RGB to the TV, the DVD player converts it to RGB. As DVD is essentially American it's pretty well stored on the disc as Component rather than RGB - which is why there's no RGB quality sources available.

So it's basically a matter of which makes a better job of the conversion - it's not difficult or complicated, it's very similar to the very last part of a PAL decoder.

As always, try them both, and see which YOU prefer, it's really a matter of personal taste.

Likely that you won't notice a difference though.
