Photo messaging to non-MMS phones
Glen
13-04-2003
When I got my 7650 (on Orange) a month or so back and I sent an MMS to to my old phone (on Vodafone) I got an SMS from Orange directing me to their website to view the photo. Now when I send a photo I get an SMS from Vodafone directing me to the photo on their website.
Is this due to the new cross-network MMS agreements? Ie. the MMS is now actually sent to Voda to deal with who pass on the notice via SMS - whereas before the MMS stayed with Orange who passed on the SMS. I assume this is the case.

Secondly, why is Vodafone's photo message retrival service so crap?
You get a message with a stupidly long URL, then have to view on this crappy page.
Vodafone's SMS tells me to go http://www.mms.vodafone.co.uk:8080/m...age-id=4419107 - seriously, who will want to type that in?
And to actually view it you have to "press the blue 'M' button on the [picture of] phone" Why?? And why have the stupid picture there anyway? And the actual photo is tiny...

Compare to Orange who send an SMS saying goto www.orange.co.uk/mms (easy eanough) and to put in the codes (6 digit ID and 8 char password) - and the photo is displayed at the actual resoulution the MMS is sent at!

Do Vodafone want all their customers to get pissed off at trying to view pictures so they will all rush off the buy MMS phones (on Vodafone Live! of course)?

you might be right about the getting *issed off thing.

My brother is on orange, and he sent me a picture message, then i got an sms from t-mobile telling me to collect at thier site, even though im on Virgin!

but i tihnk its cos Virgin use t-mobile or somthing.

Anyway, i got a mms phone(3510i) so i dont know why i couldnt get the picture?? do u think its cos i dont have GPRS on virgin?

You can now send MMS Messages from Orange - T-Mobile and T-Mobile - Orange. You can send them from Orange - 02 and 02 - Orange. I do not know about any other combinations.

T-Mobile do not support sending to Orange, as they are still ironing out bugs which is why they are not advertising. I am not sure if you can send them to between the 3. Voda seems to be in the dark YEY!

You will just have to wait, SMS messages were not cross network in its early days...

There's supposed to be complete cross network MMS now or very soon. Orange -> Voda must be working anyway as that's why if I send one to my old phone the SMS is now from Vodafone.

I'm not too bothered myself (my Vodafone SIM will be dead in 23 days), but I might want to send photos to friends with Voda non-MMS phones who will have to use Voda's crappy website to view tiny pictures and type in a stupidly long URL to get there.

And three years it took to get.

Cross network MMS should be working now fully i am led to believe. Cannot test it though, as the only people i know with them are on the same network as me .
