Connection with a DTV Decoder INSIDE an IDTV

I have a CRT Sony IDTV, the model number escapes me right now. It's around 6 years old and is one of the first generation IDTVs.

When it arrived, factory set, the DTV picture was Ok but didn't amaze me. It took me a few weeks to discover that there was setting on the menu to change the picture from Composite (default) to RGB. Just to clarify, this setting changes the way the DTV signal is sent within the TV.

I was today having a look around Currys and found a TV that for a chage, had it's own antenna meaning I could watch DTV from the internal receiver rather than from a poor looped signal setup in store.

The picture quality was poor, or at least no better than my Sony BEFORE I discovered the RGB setting. I reminded me of a Panasonic CRT IDTV belonging to a friend. I however scored the menu on both the Panasonic and this Samsung LCD TV to find an RGB option but to no avail. Is this the norm? I know that DTV (Freeview) is capable of a pretty decent quality picture as my Sony can prove but I'm yet to see a TV, be it CRT, Plasma or LCD that comes anywhere near my Sony.

I'm only asking because I'm in the market for a new TV and LCD is the way to go, or is it?

It doesn't...the option for Composite or RGB is for external inputs...the built-in Freeview cannot be changed to appear as either...it is fixed internally.

Seriously, my Sony does have a setting for RBG/Compsite. It is shipped as composite but changing to RGB makes a massive difference.
