I'm looking for small lcd screen with freeview for bedroom.

Have seen cheapy in tesco technica lcd19ID-107 which has reasonable specs (for price, £230). Has anyone got one of these or seen review, before I part with my cash?

Also seen goodmans on website 32plf5522d which has hdmi connection as well as freeview for £284.

Specs are similar (low end) but have seen technics one on display in tesco and image appeared ok. It was set to same display as others but i switched it to digital and did tune which apart from ch5 was ok (loads of tvs on same aerials).

I know it won't be as good as a sony, I just want a reasonable tv for bedroom, anyone know any reason not to purchase (ie glitches / faults/ etc.).

Grateful for any advice .

Ian.

ps tried searching on net but most of stuff is adverts with little actual reviews hence appeal here.

Had posted this on terrestrial section as had not looked on this forum before (thought it was hifi gear ) most tv questions here so thought I'd post here also. Sorry if posting in 2 spots irritates anyone.

You'll probably want to ignore the Sony because it's only a 15".

I wasn't sure what size you wanted.

Thanks for all those suggestions. I'm after a 19 or 20" screen for bedroom and will take those on board.

I had seen an lcd for £229 in tesco a technika (own brand of tesco i think) 19" which has freeview, with brightness of 300 and contrast 850. No HD port (but I don't need one for bedroom) and scart. I was hoping someone might have knowledge on this set as in shop it looked ok (picture and sound).

Will cast an eye over suggestions (thanks paul) and let you know which I go for. Telly_man do you know who makes the technika for tesco?? Specs for a cheap lcd don't look too bad (imo)?

I don't unfortunately, do you happen to have a picture of it?

At that price it's hard to go wrong really, what's their returns policy like?

Its on tesco website as being out of stock but in durham shop they still have stock. Tesco normally ok if its a fault, just took iron back after 6 months and no bother.

Tescos direct site has picture - black, nothing too fancy or too fussy. ( I think I've sold myself on it as I now sound like a salesman ).

Have just sent you message on same subject, sorry I hadn't looked to see if you were on line I thought only I had insomnia.

I'll try and find it now and let you know.

I've actually replied to your message a couple of minutes ago.

Hi Ian,

Just looked at it, looks a nice TV for the money, ideal for a bedroom set.

I just got one of those tesco tv's a couple of hours ago and I will be returning it to the store tonight or tomorrow.

The both sides of the picture are missing, watched The F Word on it and when titles rolled at the end half were missing. I can't find setting anywhere to amend this. Crap.

Then there is too much backlight showing at the top and bottom of the screen.

Nest up is picture colour, I fiddled about with the settings but could not find a decent picture, too pastely, too red, too dark. It will be returned. £230 refunded.

I just thought I would try this tele out since I saw it when in shopping yesterday. I have another on order online thats near double the price and I was thinking I might get a half decent bargain here for my kitchen. I think I will wait for the £390.00 one, hopefully it will be well worth the money.

Did you try changing screen set up? I thought picture was weird in shop and just fiddled until I got 16:9 display and it got all of sky sports stuff in with no missing bits.

Did you change settings to 'user' to change brightness/contrast. I fiddled with this in shop and it was much better picture than standard or (over) bright.

What are you judging it against? (its not listed below ur name) If you've got top end gear it will look crap.

Went to look at technika set again (owen was right about limited colour change) but popped into a few other shops before hand.

20" toshibas have had a reduction in price down to 329 in comet (less on web-£299, empire direct).
There were also other sets from daweoo and DM Tech (?) for reasonable sums so not sure what to get now?

Due operation soon so was just ensuring had access to some decent telly in bed but have decided to save up a bit more and get some higher quality gear ( and get my backside out of bed to watch tv, post op).

Did you say vestel make toshibas under 23", telly_man?
Does that make 20" tosh naff or ok?

Looked at sony 20" in shop - spanking tv but expensive, back to saving for me then.....

The Toshiba's under 23" are Vestel, yeah.

The Daewoo is a cracking TV for the money, as is the DMTech (good brand, just fairly new).

The Sony is stunning but i agree, it's very expensive.

I don't have a top gear tele. I have a Panasonic 23" TX-23LXD60 in my bedroom

But the quality on the tesco tele was 100 times worse than the 14" bush portable it was replacing so me and my mum thought it was a waste of money and money would be better spent on a better tele.

Of course panny's are good tv's, no wonder it didn't look up to much!

But I agree after fiddling with techniks tv I thought I'd save up and get better stuff.

There must be more freeview lcd coming onto market soon, and the price will then come down (a bit). More time to save.

I am looking at the Toshiba 20WLT56 or the Daewoo DLT20W2 (both the same sort of price) and would appreciate it if you could explain why you regard the Daewoo as being better. The Toshiba gets a 5/5 rating from one of the 'TV' magazines and has a better contract ratio. Any advice greatly received.

The Toshiba isn't a 'true' Toshiba and also isn't HD Ready, the EPG is slow and build quality is poor, it also has an unreliable external PSU.

If it was actually made by Toshiba then i'm sure it'd be a different story altogether!

Thanks Telly_Man. I hadn't really considered the extra of HD on the Daewoo, as I'm not planning on getting that for a while but it does make more sense given the price comparison. Had a look at the site for the 'real' makers of the Toshiba and it looks like a somewhat dodgy Russian one . Just need to find the best price on the Daewoo now.

Haha, dodgy Russian site!

Vestel aren't actually a bad company, they make pretty much every kind of AV equipment you could ever imagine!

Cheap and cheerful (although not cheap if it's badged!).
