I have had a HDD7250 for about 10months now and its worked okay,But for the last week it has been making a clicking sound then Starting appears in the display.and my TV picture flickers.Starting stays in the display for about 10seconds,but it will do this every 2mins or so.its getting a bit irritating.it also does it if the TV is switched off.Anyone know why it should suddenly start to do this.Waste of time trying to get in touch with Phillips they don't answer any queries.Thanks.Cumbrian

No idea, but it has clearly developed a fault. Possibly HD corruption / fault. Since it's under a year old I suggest you RMA it to the original company from whom you bought it and get it repaired under warranty.

Cumbrian I also have the 7250 and I have had various problems with it but not what you describe. However, I have had two incidents that required the device to go back to Philips and in both cases they have been very responsive. I've gone straight to Philips not the retailer. In each case I started the process by using the report form on their tech support web page. It can take a day or two for an email response and then after an email or two to try and diagnose the problem I got and RMA number and a request as to when the unit can be picked up. A courier picked it up and the first time I go it back after a week. Problem solved. The second time (using the same reporting procedure) different fault, I got a brand new replacement after 10 days. No more problems at the moment. So, although 7250 might not be as robust as it should be Philips after sales service has been very good.

That's a documented fault on DVDR7250 and is caused by over-heating

Philips know about this because they've had nearly every single one back for this same issue

I suggest you take it back and get your money back because Philips can not fix the problem long term (they know that)

John and Jethro thanks for you replies.Strangely this fault has stopped,after driving me mad for a week it hasn't happened for the last 5 days.so i am waiting to see if it reappears.The one thing about this machine that does my head in at times is the time it takes to start up.If i switch on from standby and Starting appears in the display it takes about 3 or 4 minutes before Philips appears in the display then another minute to get going,but sometimes Philips comes in the display and not Starting.Cheers.Cumbrian

It is a ridiculously slow machine. However if you push Philips all they do is offer to 'repair' it and eventually give you your money back.

I live with mine, although it is really irritating, because it is the only one that will record 5.1 that I've seen (albeit in a non-standard format, so don't know what to do when the Philips dies!) and the quality of the recordings, both video and audio, is truly excellent.

AVRHack yes i agree the Recording quality is excellent.I will put up with the machine until something drastic goes wrong.I have just got some of my Guide+ back last night,for 5 days i have had no Guide+ downloads.The picture on my ITV1 analogue has been awful.someone told me they have been working on the Crystal Palace transmitter.My picture was a bit better last night and it downloaded about half the Guide+.Cheers.Cumbrian
