From what I've read, the current PX70 series Panasonic's don't do native 1080p, they downscale to 1080i
The new PZ series I hear should support 1080p natively. |

How do you know if its on 1080p. Is a matter of going into the ps3 settings, or something else.

The PX70 only uses a 1024 x 768 display (according to the specs. online). Though it supports a 1080p video input this is always going to be downscaled. All LCDs are progressive by nature so it would be strange if the TV was converting the signal back to interleave.
If the TV is reporting 1080i then this suggest you should be looking at the PS3 output settings. But does the PS3 actually have 1080p output capability? |

You were probably looking at the 42" model. The TH50PX70 has 1366 x 768 resolution. It does support 1080p, albeit downscaled to the panel's native resolution.
1080p resolution is one of the PS3's main selling points, although some games offer a max resolution of 720p resolution (the PS3 doesn't upscale them). |

HDMI v1.1 optionally supports 1080p, as do all subsequent versions. It's up to the manufacturer whether or not they implement. Some 768p native TVs support 1080p; they just don't display it at 1080p.
As for the Panasonics, the PZ700 range is 1080p native, while the cheaper PX70 range is 720p/768p. |
