Jesus Christ Superstar - wish I'd seen Ian Gillan as JSC, his version of Gethsemane on the soundtrack is brilliant. Nearly favourite is Cats, then Joseph.

For me it has to be Jesus Christ Superstar. I saw it about 10 years ago in the West End with Steve Balsamo as Jesus. What a voice - absolutely spell-binding ! ! Check him out on youtube singing Gethsemene. You won't believe his vocal range!

Oh yes - and he is very cute as well !

First place I would put Phantom, with Starlight Express in
2nd and Joseph 3rd.

I'm in the minority with "Song and Dance" being my favorite. Hey, I'm a cellist.

Mine are Jesus Christ Superstar and Whistle Down The Wind. Oh and Starlight Express, Evita and The Beautiful Game. And Phantom is amazing too. Arghh I can't pick one!!

Controversial, I know, but it's Evita, JCSuperstar and Starlight Express for me. I also loved Whistle Down The Wind and The Beautiful Game.

Hated Cats and thought Phantom was grossly overrated (Mind, I'd just seen Les Miz a couple of days before) and that, to me, is THE best musical of all time.

Sunset Boulevard followed by Evita

oh I completly agree with you there. Cats (and Joseph but not to the same extent) are the kind of musical you like as a child, they along The Sound of Music got me into musicals, but now they just seem a bit lightweight and frothy.

I never liked Phantom that much either, I like the concept, but just doesn't have any songs i really like to be honest. which is unusual because although, I find many ALW musicals to be overly ponderous and repetitive, they nearly always have a decent tune in them.

Evita, Joseph and Sunset Boulevard for me.

I love the overture to Cats but if I hear an amateur singer murdering 'Memory' one more time I will not be responsible for my actions!

JCS has some great moments too. I went through a bit of a pretentious phase of thinking ALW was far too mainstream and predictable but now I've grown up a bit more I think some of his musicals have got to be right up there with the likes of West Side Story in the "best of all time" stakes.

Otherwise, Evita. Although my favourite ALW songs are from Cats ('Memory') and the title tune from Tell Me On A Sunday.”

I loved Phantom - could see Lee in that one actually - love the songs - so strong. Also loved Joseph though.

Phantom is the only Andrew musical I like, more of a Sondheim freak myself.
I read in "the Sun" online (I'm not a pleb I promise) in their Joseph section that ALW is writing a Phantom sequel- interesting news. What would it be about though? I always thought old Phantom was dead at the end?

Jesus Christ Superstar or Joseph for me (I obviously like the biblical stories ). Did I read somewhere that ALW might use JCS as the next 'audition show' musical?

PHANTOM did like Sunset Boulevard, but I do like most ALW except! Evita fell asleep watching it.

Hello there Rach - welcome to the forums. We're a slightly mad bunch (I guess I speak more for Daniel's kittens there) but there is a great deal of banter going on most times of the day - it gets a little bit more raunchy (if that's the right word) later in the evening!!

Joseph was the first musical I ever saw, and it is still one of my favourites.

Drop by to Daniel's thread and say Hi some time.

xx

On Johnathon Ross tonight: ALW's favourites are West Side Story and Oklahoma. John Barrowman says Oklahoma. He also wants ALW to write a Doctor Who/Torchwood musical. I'll leave you to your own thoughts on that one.

I'm 13 and have been dragged to (with my mum and dad)

1.Catz - Thought it was brilliant
2.Starlight Express - But found it really good
3.Phantom of the Opera - Great story and music, but drags on a bit...
4.Joseph and The Coat - With H! - Good, but not as good as the others

But, they're all very close...
