Texting to a Irish phone

Im on O2 online 500... when i text to the Republic of Ireland from the UK, are my texts still free? the girl at O2 said they are free cos there sent from the UK but calls are not taken out of my allowence... i just wanted another answer.

Apparently not, the policy appears to have been changed quite recently. What isn't clear is the amount that they are charging - it's either 20p or 49p per text, but I have heard both numbers. A friend of mine called O2 to complain about this, as they hadn't heard anything about the change, and O2 insisted that they had informed all customers by e-mail / text. They claimed that the policy had changed within the last month.

well, if the girl at O2 told you they're free, and they turn out not to be, i'd say you have grounds to kick up a fuss.
