Yeah i am surprised that the uk has such a poor offering, espicially with the format being region free. Never mind though, we can still order from the usa with a click of a button.

Got the Matrix Ultimate this morning from the US and of course will get Heroes, no problems at all having US releases since as stated the format is region free and mainly cheaper than the UK.

The Japanese and other countries are a little more expensive though but the French are pretty much equal with the UK and thankfully they have T2 on the way

Movietyme, they occasionally ship early since like most retailers (online or highstreet) they have access to stock before the launch date. Decent prices and no customs issues.

But aren't they NTSC 60Hz discs, which give some playback problems with some kit?

Geoff

NTSC doesn't exist in terms of HD, all the discs so far will be stored as 1080p/24 and any HD Ready display (or plain HD for that matter) should have no problem accepting the 60hz output and if someone has done their homework (or at this time have the money) then a scaler or display will handle the native 24fps with no need for frame rate conversion.
None of the HD-DVD players (not 100% sure about the Blu-ray) can play 1080p/25 encoded material not that any actually exists retail atm (at least never seen any).

At the mo the issue of 60hz judder and 50hz audio speed up won't be fully in the past until more panels are on the market that accept 1080p/24 direct.

Import them man. Don't waste your time waiting for the UK release. It doesn't matter anymore as their region free

I know about importing them.

I've imported dvd's since 1998.

Cheaper too.

But I was still moaning that the UK schedule is a bit poor.

Its all well and good everyone importing them from the US but if the UK release listings remain as dreadful as they are then the format's success will be even more difficult than it is now with a superior BR schedule

Isn't importing discs really expensive?

I got the Golden Girls seasons six and seven from Amazon and despite them only being $50 for both by the time they had added shipping, import taxes, customs charges and whatnot it had shot up to $118.

I think these guys post them within the uk, but get all the usa releases on time. Cant remember where they are based, think it said on the envelope that came with my last order. Free p+p as well.

They currently have some good deals

Batman Begins £9.99
Last Samuria £9.99
Terminator 3 £9.99
The wicker man £9.99

Import tax is applicable to orders over £18 (ish) and then only when inspected and Amazon do nothing to smooth matters over and if you use a courier service then they always follow the rules.
I'll never use Amazon for that very reason and apart from a special deal they tend to be more expensive anyway.

Single disks or bundles (inc p&p) under £18 will not be taxed and other retailers simply "smudge" the issue or bulk ship to the UK via various means and then dispatch within the UK.

Box sets can be a problem.

But for regular dvd's its hard to find any US product priced as high as its UK version.

The only way to beat US prices in the UK is to wait 6 months for the inevitable price cuts

I got Rio Bravo last week, a nice early release from MT and while not as visually impressive as The Searchers it stomped my DVD copy into the ground
