How can anyone say queen is a rock band when you have stuff like this on offer:

I agree certain bands don't fit the 'rock' criteria, but they are harder than pop and not as heavy as rock or metal so maybe there needs to be a new category?

I wouldnt call the beatles or queen a rock band....but there you go

1) Led Zeppelin ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaHeTy8X09E )

2) Jimi Hendrix ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXk9SvsF-I8 )

3) Cream ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cqh54rSzheg )
Three great choices. Beatles covered so much ground that they deserve a place in any list. "Helter Skelter" is as rocky as most rock songs get, so hard it even gave their drummer blisters on his fingers

Zeppelin by a long shot. I wouldn't say they were my favourite band ever (although they are up there) but I would say they were the greatest due to the fact they blended so many different styles like blues, folk, eastern and still managed to make great accessible to all music and inflenced all who appeared after.

the Beatles for me were more of a pop band, I mean how you can you say they rocked? They were good but they didn't rock!

Dream Theater! Just rounding off the Scenes from a Memory DVD and they are gods IMO!

Failing that, Rush come pretty close second

the Beatles blended eastern, folk and blues as well.

"She Loves You" - pop song

"Tomorrow Never Knows" - clearly a style of rock.

"Revolution" - a rock song

"Get Back" - a rock song

they were so eclectic and covered all genres. They ROCKED!

I guess you could to "Helter Skelter" yea

I don't "head bang" to any songs by any artist though, any of the traditional "hard rock" artists mentioned, it makes me dizzy and surely its not safe!

I just cant get into dream theater at all and I am a big rush fan.
I was told they tried to copy Rush's style but to me they are just like any other metal band and nothing like Rush.

Queen not a rock band? Try listening to Tie Your Mother Down, Hammer To Fall & I Want It All - to name just 3. Do songs like When I'm 64 and Honey Pie qualify the Beatles as a rock band?
Both are rock bands - both have a differing and varied style. 'Nuff said!

Queen's 70s output was awesome. Their 80s stuff not so but still ok.

Id have to plump for Led Zep though.

Honerable mentions for my favs though (after Zep and Queen) of AC/DC, Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Rolling Stones, The Who, Lynard Skynard, and into the 80s with GnR, U2, Kiss/Def Leppard/Bon Jovi/Van Halen (poodle rock at its finest), the 90s with RHCP, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Oasis and up to now with Foo Fighters, Muse, Velvet Revolver, Wolfmother etc.

But this kind of arguement will never cease.. And theres a reason I didnt put the Beatles amongst them.. I just dont think they're a rock band (sorry BeatleGod, thats my opinion!)

Hmmm, I don't see the Rolling Stones as any more rock than the Beatles. Ultimately, during the 60s, particularly by the late 60s, both were classed as "rock n roll", and OASIS???? The Beatles have done harder edge songs than Oasis. Many of their songs are heavily Beatles influenced.

I agree with you - in fact in the 60s it was a matter of whether you liked the Beatles or the Stones - they were pitted against each other. I think the problem is with people who only think of the 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and 'Ticket To Ride' era Beatles, instead of White Album and Sgt. Pepper's era Beatles.

Whether the Beatles are rock, pop, whatever - they still top my list.

Many liked both. Both bands were good buddies and remember the Stones first major hit was penned by Lennon/McCartney. Brian Jones also appeared on a Beatles b-side

No, no, You're not alone! Not my top favorite band, but they're on the list. I like how they make quite heavy music that's also accessible and not too difficult to listen to.
Not so sure about their new single though... It might have to grow on me a bit.
Aww thank you, was feeling a bit lonely over here I know what you mean about the new single. But then in my opinion I think they can only improve on the Golden Age album. It wasn't my cup of tea at all!

The Beatles were formed in the era before heavy rock started, so their early act consisted of "rock and roll"; from 1966 on they did a fair amount of heavier rock and for a "pop" group they excelled at it - Rain, Revolution, Helter Skelter, Hey Bulldog, etc.

They were the best group ever in my opinion, but were too versatile to be classed just as a rock band.

1) The Beatles
2) Led Zeppelin
3) The Doors
I'd put the Rolling Stones above those three but I don't really think of The Beatles or The Doors as 'rock' bands
