How can anyone say queen is a rock band when you have stuff like this on offer:

I agree certain bands don't fit the 'rock' criteria, but they are harder than pop and not as heavy as rock or metal so maybe there needs to be a new category?

Zeppelin by a long shot. I wouldn't say they were my favourite band ever (although they are up there) but I would say they were the greatest due to the fact they blended so many different styles like blues, folk, eastern and still managed to make great accessible to all music and inflenced all who appeared after.
the Beatles for me were more of a pop band, I mean how you can you say they rocked? They were good but they didn't rock! |

Dream Theater! Just rounding off the Scenes from a Memory DVD and they are gods IMO!
Failing that, Rush come pretty close second |

"Revolution" - a rock song "Get Back" - a rock song they were so eclectic and covered all genres. They ROCKED!

![]() I don't "head bang" to any songs by any artist though, any of the traditional "hard rock" artists mentioned, it makes me dizzy and surely its not safe! |

Failing that, Rush come pretty close second I was told they tried to copy Rush's style but to me they are just like any other metal band and nothing like Rush. |

Queen not a rock band? Try listening to Tie Your Mother Down, Hammer To Fall & I Want It All - to name just 3. Do songs like When I'm 64 and Honey Pie qualify the Beatles as a rock band?
Both are rock bands - both have a differing and varied style. 'Nuff said! |

Queen's 70s output was awesome. Their 80s stuff not so but still ok.
Id have to plump for Led Zep though. Honerable mentions for my favs though (after Zep and Queen) of AC/DC, Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Rolling Stones, The Who, Lynard Skynard, and into the 80s with GnR, U2, Kiss/Def Leppard/Bon Jovi/Van Halen (poodle rock at its finest), the 90s with RHCP, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Oasis and up to now with Foo Fighters, Muse, Velvet Revolver, Wolfmother etc. But this kind of arguement will never cease.. And theres a reason I didnt put the Beatles amongst them.. I just dont think they're a rock band (sorry BeatleGod, thats my opinion!) |

Hmmm, I don't see the Rolling Stones as any more rock than the Beatles. Ultimately, during the 60s, particularly by the late 60s, both were classed as "rock n roll", and OASIS???? The Beatles have done harder edge songs than Oasis. Many of their songs are heavily Beatles influenced.
Whether the Beatles are rock, pop, whatever - they still top my list. |

I agree with you - in fact in the 60s it was a matter of whether you liked the Beatles or the Stones - they were pitted against each other. I think the problem is with people who only think of the 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and 'Ticket To Ride' era Beatles, instead of White Album and Sgt. Pepper's era Beatles.
Whether the Beatles are rock, pop, whatever - they still top my list.

No, no, You're not alone! Not my top favorite band, but they're on the list. I like how they make quite heavy music that's also accessible and not too difficult to listen to.
Not so sure about their new single though... It might have to grow on me a bit. I know what you mean about the new single. But then in my opinion I think they can only improve on the Golden Age album. It wasn't my cup of tea at all!

The Beatles were formed in the era before heavy rock started, so their early act consisted of "rock and roll"; from 1966 on they did a fair amount of heavier rock and for a "pop" group they excelled at it - Rain, Revolution, Helter Skelter, Hey Bulldog, etc.
They were the best group ever in my opinion, but were too versatile to be classed just as a rock band. |
