Should EastEnders just be moved to 8pm?

I have to say I think Emmerdale's endless hour-long specials are really irritating. ITV's competetiveness is what's behind it and in the end, soap fans lose out. I think BBC ONE should consider moving EastEnders permanently to 8pm, as it is on Mondays and Fridays, to avoid the endless clashes with Emmerdale. I really believe EastEnders is back in it's stride lately and justifies an audience of 8-10 million a night - I gave up watching Emmerdale about six months ago just because it was so tedious, bad and lacklustre.

Yeah I agree with you there- wouldn't do any harm really moving it to 8pm- although it would affect the Tuesday and Thursday dramas like Holby City/Holby Blue etc etc. Would also save a lot of hassle trying to remember what day of the week it was and what time EE was meant to be on haha!

It would go head to head with The Bill on a Thursday which might hit its ratings though.

It's a good idea and it might benefit the show but it has been on at 7:30 on Tues/Thurs since time immemorial so I can't see it happening.

What they should do is move it back only when Emmerdale have these one hour specials and leave it as it is the rest of the time.

It is already on at 8pm on monday and friday, and the only time it clashes with anything like Emmerdale is if theres an hour long special which aren't that often.
I don't think it needs to be moved really.

Personally for me this would be a bad move (might be good overall though)

I would only watch the Mon/Fri episodes if this happened as I watch other things on a Tue/Thur

I think they should leave it as it is. Emmerdale only have hour specials when a big event is happening, and if Eastenders moved to 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday, it would push Holby City and Holby Blue to an 8:30 slot. Also Eastenders may start losing out on viewers permanently as it would go against the Bill if it was on at 8pm on a Thursday, i say, leave it as it is.

Yeah, I think it is ok as it is. Even when emmerdale do have an hour long episode, you can always watch eastenders at 10pm on BBC3

If ever I miss Easties I just catch up at 10pm on BBC3. I wouldn't want it moving - I watch how clean is your house on C4 at 8pm!

Putting it at 8 might upset the Holby City and Hustle fans.

Also as others have said catch the repeat at 10, that is what it's there for

Whatever time it is on, ITV will continue their stupid spoiling tricks. Corrie starts at 7 29 on Sundays and Wednesdays but on Mondays and Fridays when EE is on at 8 it starts at 7 35 and goes on to 8 01 to 8 02. All this achieves is to irritate the millions who watch both. It is even more annoying if you are going out and have to set the video!

Why should EastEnders move because of the scheduling of other channels? Emmerdale is only on for an hour every now and again.

If EastEnders moved to 8pm, Holby City would air at 8.30-9.30, what are they going to put in the 30 minute slot before the news? There's no time for a drama in there.

Its had the 7.30 slot on Tuesday and Thursdays since June 1985, so no I don't want it moved out of that position.

Emmerdale don't have hour longs very often and apart from these one-offs EE always beats Emmerdale.

I would prefer EE to be on every time at 8pm though!

Incidentally I imagine the audience for last night's 10pm BBC THREE repeat of EastEnders was larger than usual and many people must have missed it. Does anyone know what it was?

I always watch EE at 10pm on BBC3 anyway because I'm usually busy with other things earlier in the evening, but I suppose for the people who don't have BBC3 it might be better to move it to 8pm. Or in my opinion it would be ok to put it on even later on BBC1, maybe 9 or 10. Most people wouldnt like this though, so maybe they should just keep it as it is.
