Instead of Surallun (Sir Alan) .. who?
Though I'm fairly sold on Sir Alan cracking the whip as the apprentice hunter for the 3rd time, I do wonder if by next year his presence will seem a bit hackneyed?
I had thought a good replacement would be Branson, but he is too "nice" and "positive" . I recall he did a show for an American TV network a couple of years ago, looking for an apprentice - though it was interesting in parts, the format was so macho and thickly overlaid with dramatic music that I couldn't abide enduring it to the bitter end! Branson also appeared to be ill at ease with acting "hard".Does anyone have a replacement in mind for Surallun? |

This might be quite timely as I think SAS' selection and firing criteria is starting to descend into farce.
His spiel when firing Ghazal was off the mark and almost made me think he'd been reading some of the posts on here criticising her. So, someone fresh every couple of years please, because SAS is proving - by the dire calibre of the candidates this year and the controversiality of some of them (cue Katie) - that subtance will eventually lose out to ratings. Next, Sir Richard Branson. Last edited by Sweet FA : 18-05-2007 at 14:19. Reason: forgot the 'Sir' |

I wouldn't like to cross him and have to face him in the board room. What about a woman? America did a series with Martha Stewart. Michelle Mone is very successful but probably just too nice. |

NO, NO and NO!
Sir Alan can't be replaced! Nobody could better his whit, charm and fantastic opening monologues (both "I don't like liars" from Series 2 and "I don't care if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth" from Series 3)

.. going with the Dragon's Den theme, I think Deborah Meadon would be an interesting choice. She can be friendly and encouraging, but tough and uncompromising - but does she have the clever patter and misanthropy to lay into the hapless contestants?
I can imagine there are quite a few millionaire entrepreneurs waiting in the wings, hoping Surralun jacks it in, so they can chance their careers at this apprentice lark. The show has made him a sort of curmudgeonly national treasure, though I wonder if its done his business any good? |

Next, Sir Richard Branson. In the beginning SA was more closely involved with the candidates, whereas now he relies on feedback from M & N and gets on with his life in between board room sessions. Also the selection of candidates can't be down to him - he must have teams of people interviewing and selecting - and IMHO they need sacking Whoever they replaced SA with would end up in the same place after a few series - it's the way these things go. I couldn't watch Duncan Ballantyne I'm afraid - at any price! |

Sorry, I can't recall her name, but the Ultima Bra lady who was on the Fired programme a couple of weeks ago. I've seen her on a few programmes, and she is funny and feisty, and does not suffer fools - she would be good

I don't think Sir Richard Branson would be a great choice.
He is notably, despite the programme he did (Rebel Millionaire?), fairly uncomfortable infront of the camera in scripted situations. I think that this may be due to the dyslexia he suffers from although he has said in the past that it helps him when trying to interpret situations or people which could help him in a show like The Apprentice. I had the great pleasure of meeting Sir Richard a number of years ago at a business event and he was as timed as a kitten. I think he is a genuinely nice fella, and while I think Sir Alan probably is as well, he probably doesn't need the hassle he would get by doing The Apprentice. That being said he isn't shy of trying to build his already huge media, therefore company, profile! |
