BBC Eastenders Scheduling 17-05-07
Does anybody else think that the BBC shouldn't have scheduled such an expensive episode of Eastenders up against Emmerdale, knowing what a big episode it was for Emmerdale with the Tom King reveal?
I know you can catch up on BBC3, but for licence payers who don't have BBC and might enjoy Eastenders and Emmerdale, it seems wrong £1million of licence payers money should be spent on 1 episode, and its put up against Emmerdale? Could they not have delayed it until next week so soap fans could enjoy both 'big' episodes? |

All the stunt was actually shown in last night's episode. On the night of the Tom King reveal, EE only shown the first part of their stunt at the end of the Thursday episode. On Friday, viewers saw the stunt that finished off Thursday's episode again along with the rest of the stunt, so viewers didn't miss anything due to the head to head of the two soaps.

Hmm... I guess..
Still, it'd be nicer if big storylines didn't clash, soap producers etc must appreciate that most of their fans are going to be fans of other soaps too?? |

..and as we pay for the BBC, they should really not get so involved in the bitchy ratings wars and schedule programmes more fairly?

It's Emmerdale that is eating into EastEnders' timeslot not the other way around. |

I appreciate that, but when it comes down to it, we pay the licence fee for BBC (and therefore Eastenders).
If they're going to spend £1million on a storyline/event, they should try and play it out at a time when its not up against a massive episode of another soap? I'm not saying Eastenders should always bow down to Emmerdale, but it wouldn't have been difficult to fill thsi week with the normal tripe (Dot's baby, Staz, Li and Mickey etc), and have the good stuff next week.. |

Well Fridays episode was really good. Im so glad this episode was not for Thurs, if you get what i mean.
Also was the first bit of last nights show - repeating the car crash from Thurs - added in at the last minute, due to the amount of people who missed it Thurs? |

I still think that it would have been better if the camping trip had been shown next week so more people could have enjoyed the whole storyline.

You can't expect EE to work around their script just to fit in with rival soaps. I don't really see what the problem is! If your a fan of both you could have recorded one and watched the other, plus both soaps have an omnibus. I could understand if neither were repeated.

It wasn't like the BBC put it in E'stales timeslot. E'stale went on in EE's timeslot.

I know that and I appreciate what you say about recording/repeats etc.
It may not be tru in this particular case, but what I'm trying to say is that I don't think Eastenders should particpate so much in the tactics undertaken by soaps to out-do one another, as we actually pay for Eastenders so decisions should be taken in the interests of the audiences. Sorry! Maybe I'm not saying what I mean very well!! |

What are you talking about decisions! The BBC aired EE in the same slot that it has been in for years...

I mean the decision to run with a £1million storyline/sequence against Emmerdale's biggest episode of the year. |
