I Want to make a debate type thread over the charges channel 4 carry out for live streaming online. my next door neighbour signed up to it and had a 56k modem and the picture and quility was awful and it never stopped buffering! - and he had to pay!!

he would of been better of getting E4 as then he did not have sky.

SO IAM ASKING EVERYONE TO JOIN ME IN SAYING

You're never gonna win this one, paid streaming is the way things are going..

Personally I have broadband at home and at University, and am perfectly happy to pay the charge, certainly less than a Sky Box costs! Not that I'd complain if it was free

See http://www.mlb.tv - charging is the way the internet is going, and in a way it prevents the connections being clogged by 56k users, MLB.tv mentions a Broadband Connection is required, perhaps C4 should do that too..

But what of those of us who live in the sticks. Broadband access is only a pipedream, and will not be available for years according to BT.

but it costs a lot of money dunnit

I'd be happy to pay for it if I didn't have E4 or a life.... it's not that much money is it. I wouldn't bother with a 56k modem tho

I think we hashed this one out last year. It costs them a fair amount of money to take the footage, encode it, and pay for the bandwith (last year from the BBC) to stream it onto the web. To expect them to do that for free is to expect them to accept a loss, which would benefit nobody.

but not everyone has sky neither broadband, so come on! - i would certainly NOT pay online charges if it would keep buffering and that.

and you've got to realise that not a lot of people want a dish outside their house and in some areas NTL and telewest are not availible.

so internet is the only way to watch the house live, but i would'nt pay!!
