Is GPRS taken from the Flext allowance on T-Mobile?

Looking at the FAQ page it states that

Quote:
“ Is data usage included within the allowance?

No you can't use your allowance for data calls, but you do have the option to add a data bundle to your account.”

But it doesn't specify anything about GPRS - it only specifically mentions calls which to me means CSD.

Looking at the Non standard charges brochure on page 12 it states that

Quote:
“If your allowance runs out during a call or GPRS session, we will charge you for the remainder of the call or session at the relevant rate as per your price plan. Once your allowance has been used, you will be charged for all subsequent call or GPRS data transferred at your price plan rate.”

So according to that any GPRS data transfer should be taken from my flext allowance, up to the capped level of £1 per day.

I really HATE pay-monthly plans they are never clear on what is and is not included. I'm quite happy with Orange PAYG at the moment with their £1 per day unlimited GPRS but I would like a new phone (an HTC TyTN) and T-Mobile have it on the cheapest plan and initial phone cost. I would buy it SIM free but when you work out the cost of the phone and add on either 12 or 18 months worth of PAYG topups it works out cheaper on a T-Mobile contract.

Could anyone here on T-Mobile confirm whether GPRS data is taken from the allowance?

Doubt it.

£7.50 a month gets you Web 'n' walk though, unlimited internet on your mobile.

I doubt it too. But the T&C seems to state that it IS included.

I know this - but I doubt I would use it enough to warrant it. Without web'n'walk I could use the net for seven days a month at £1 a day and still be 50p cheaper. That would probably be enough for me.

If it were taken out of my Flext allowance that would be even better. If I had a £34 allowance I could use the net for 31 days a month and still have £3 allowance left over - enough for 15 minutes talk time or 30 texts.

It seems obvious that data wouldn't be included as part of the allowance but how can they argue with their own terms and conditions posted on their own website?

I'd rather stick with PAYG since it really annoys me that I would pay £20+ per month and probably wont use all my allowance and yet I still get charged for other services. That's like putting a £20 topup on my phone and getting a bill for fifty quid even though I've still got £18 left.......... at least with PAYG I don't throw money away unused. But if I want to get a new phone at a sensible price I'll have to go on a contract for awhile

GPRS use is NOT taken from any flext allowance.

I can 100% assure you of that - flext allowance can only be put towards calls to UK mobiles and standard landlines, texts/mms to UK mobiles and voicemail retrieval.

Thanks for the info. That is also what I've had confirmed from T-Mobile customer services by email.

But in that case how do they explain the meaning of the following statement? This is taken from the "Non standard charges brochure" on page 12.

http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/content/pd...onstandard.pdf

Quote:
“If your allowance runs out during a call or GPRS session, we will charge you for the remainder of the call or session at the relevant rate as per your price plan. Once your allowance has been used, you will be charged for all subsequent call or GPRS data transferred at your price plan rate.”

It seems quite clear to me that the terms and conditions state that GPRS usage WILL be taken from the tariff allowance. It states unambiguously that "if your allowance runs out during a ... GPRS session, we will charge you for the remainder of the ... session at the relevant rate per your price plan". How can the allowance run out during a GPRS session if the cost of the session is not being taken from the allowance?

It seems to me that should I sign up for a flext tariff and find that GPRS usage is indeed charged extra then it would be a case of breach of contract, since I have it here in writing direct from their website that data usage will be taken from the tariff allowance.

It seems that customer services say one thing when the terms and conditions say another!

I think you are mis-interpreting the terms and conditions. If you are not given a GPRS allowance, which you are not with flext, how can it run out, when you are not given one in the first place..It states quite clearly on the main website the flext allowance can be used for text mesasages, picture messages and minutes. I would suggext it refers to older data bundles that could be bought. For example if you bought a 4MB bundle, then after you had used your 4MB allowance you would be charged.

It seems to me that "If your allowance runs out during a call or GPRS session" refers to ONE allowance that is used for EITHER calls or data. Since the flext tariff only gives you one allowance then that means it can be used to either calls or data. That's what the T&C say to me anyway.
