VHS to DVD Conversion

A friend told me that if your DVD Player records DVD's, you could change videos to DVD's. I have both a video recorder and a DVD Recorder. Is it possible for me to convert my videos into DVD's without buying any extra equipment?

Some you can, some you can't. Some you are allowed to, some you aren't.

Many commercially purchased video tapes have anticopying protection called Macrovision and most DVD recorders won't allow copies to be made.

Home made recordings can be transferred to DVD for archiving.

You can get a scart lead which blocks out the macrovision so you can record any VHS to DVD.

I deliberately didn't mention that as Digital Spy has a policy of no discussions about ways to avoid copyright protection, so best to not carry on about such devices!

They don't, they won't let you copy either way if the source is protected.
