Internet download speeds

I've been with Homechoice since December 2000, hardly ever use the TV side of it but the internet as always been very reliable so I stuck with it. When the 8meg download came out I upgraded as soon as I could was getting 6 to 7.3mb downloads but over the last year went down to between 5 & 6.3mb which I was satisfied with. This year its gone pear shaped,started dropping the connection quite often, I phoned them up and they done a test on the box and said it should be ok now,asked if it would slow down my download speed they said it should speed up, but the speed went down to 4megs.
I left this for a couple of weeks as it was a stable connection then I made a big mistake and phoned them again and told them I was only getting 4meg they done another test and said my line cannot sustain an 8meg connection and put it down to 2meg .I was still getting 4megs but tonight its gone down to 1.9 so it looks like I'll be off to Sky,if I only get 2meg with them at least I will save £15.

Definitely not a wireless (interference) problem? You tried connecting directly to the box via ethernet to see if that helps?

My computers are all wired,the test homechoice done on my line said I could now only get 2meg and there's nothing they can do.

If you call homechoice and ask for a engineer visit.
If you ask the engineer to reterminate the Ends of the RJ45 cable , i will guarantee you that your speed will be increased

depending on who you talk too!!
the so called tiscali staff have no idea what they are doing as there only had a few days training
but it's really amazing as i was told i couldent get more than 2.8 meg too when i ask to be put on max speed but and a very big but if you get the right person ie someone whos worked for homechioce to begin with im happerly with 6.5 meg now

I second that...

When I got a new STB the engineer was very helpfull and he put new RJ45 connectors and my internet speed jumped from 5.5meg to 6.8meg!

When I last spoke to Homechoice they told me my line had been downgraded, why I dont know and I dont think they know.

Yes but remember...they also use profiles on your iNet speed so after the engineer visit, call them to ensure you are on one of the higher profiles (providing your line can handle it).
