Goodmans 19" - Good buy?

Hi

My sister is demanding a new TV, her price range is sub-£200.

We're looking for a future-proof TV that she will eventually be able to hook up to a Sky-HD box.

She watches a lot of movies, soaps, no sports (so no worries with motion lag).

Connected would be:

1. Sky+ box OR sky HD box
2. DVD Recorder
3. VCR
4. Nintendo 64

Pros / cons of this TV?

Are there any better out there for the same price?

In general, what are Goodmans like as a brand (I've never bought Goodmans before).

There are two completely different 'Goodmans', first is the old speaker people, they buy in cheap sets and badge them Goodmans. Second, Comet have the rights to use the Goodmans name in the UK, so they also buy in cheap sets and badge them Goodmans - just like Currys/Dixons use Matsui, Logik, Ferguson etc.

So Goodmans, in either case, is just a cheap set with a badge stuck on!.

However, with a sub-£200 budget you're only looking at cheap crap anyway! - and a 19 inch won't be much use for HD, you would really have to set VERY close to it.

These are a nice TV, as Nigel says they're just rebranded though.

I'm not entirely sure who the OEM is, possibly Beko.

Worth noting these don't have an HDMI socket though, just DVI.

If you're after something cheap and cheerful though, you can't go wrong.

Hmmm ... I take the point re the benefit of HD on a 19" unless you sit very close to it (which my sister won't).

Therefore any suggestions for a decent non-HD ready LCD TV sub-£200, or even around the £200 mark (I might be kind and help her out with it)?

I have to agree with Nigel, £200 is very budget priced so to be honest, future proofing is a good idea, but whether the thing will last more than a couple is years may render any future proofing useless.

Still if the TV blows up in 2 years time, you'll get a replacement for half the price no doubt!........and it's still cheaper than renting.
