Play Old Camcorder Cassettes on TV
BCtom

My friend has several old camcorder cassettes and she is wanting to watch them on her television.

The camcorder which they were made was stolen while she was on holiday a few years ago.

All the cassettes say the following on them:

"8mm Video Cassette". "TDK". "Metal Particle Tape". "METAL E-HG". "90".

Anyone got any ideas to do this?

Buy an 8mm camcorder.

Sounds like a Video 8 tape, so you need a Video 8 cam-corder to play them back in. The only chance might be to buy a second hand one?, I don't know if they still make Video 8 machines or not?.

Video 8 home machines were available (a LONG time ago), but they were very rare, and very expensive.

there must be places close by that convert 8mm onto DVD just like onto VHS tapes

check the local paper/ yellow pages

Can you not buy those cassette adaptors where you can put the camcorder cassette inside which can then be played on a standard VHS player?

Yes, but they were for VHS-C and not 8mm.

No.

The adapters you refer to were for VHS-C format cassettes. These used the same tape and recording format as a standard VHS cassette but in a smaller case.

Video-8 is very different. For one thing the tape is far narrower than standard VHS. The speed the tape plays at is different too. So all in all a VHS player would not be able to track a Video-8 tape anyway even if it were possible to pass it over the head drum.
