what are orange up to?

I went on the orange website a few weeks ago to see if i could upgrade my phone. I did the usual of logging on on the upgrade page and it said the cost of an upgrade would be £0.00 (i took to mean free!) so I looked at which phones I could get for free upgrade, and spent quite a lot of time doing my research as to which would be the best phone. I decided today on the SE W610i and went on Orange website to upgrade. When I logged on however, they are now telling me that it will cost £50.00 to upgrade. What the hell is that about?! I have emailed them to ask if it's a technical error and I'm waiting for a response.

Has anybody else had this problem at all? I am really angry as I have spent a lot of my dinner times looking into lots of different phone reviews and was really looking forward to getting my new phone.

I had a similar experience but the other way round. I am 3 months away from the end of my 18 month contract, on saturday I did as you did and it said it would cost me £50 to upgrade which I expected. However, later on on saturday I took another look, not sure why, and it was saying it would cost me nothing to upgrade It still says nothing now!

Still can't decide on what phone I want for free, as I'll have to pay for either the N95 or the LG Prada

I've only been looking at SE phones this time round, I am normally a Nokia person but my last phone was nothing but trouble so I've gone back to SE, and from what I have read on reviews the W610i is very good, and my mate has just got one and it looks well smart! I'll keep checking the orange website then, in case they do what they did with you and put it back to free!

best to phone them. speaking to a live person you are more likely to get what you want. i upgraded direct last year and was more than happy with the service.

I think you are right, it's just finding the time, as they seem to put you on hold for ages! I will try in my dinner hour 2moro.

You may well be due a free upgrade, the it may the be phone that costs. All users fall within one of five bands. It may well be you are in one of the low user bands that reduce the number of free phones available to you.

Yeah the more I read this the more I think that you have got confused about the issue.
When upgrading, depending on when you do it, there is either a fee or not. In your case there isn't a fee.
So that is your free upgrade.
From there you choose a phone. If you are in band 3 or above nearly all phones are £0. Exceptions being N95, Scirocco and some smart phones.
If you are band 1 or 2 you WILL pay something for most phones.

the phone is free, it is the upgrade cost that has changed from £0 to £50. The phone I want is defo free, most of the phones are, with the exception of about 3.

managed to ring them during dinner and they said that it could have been a technical error and apologised, and i can get a free upgrade as from 19th June, so I didn't bother complaining with it not being far off.
thanks for your help everyone!
