Songchoice Suffering

I think we can agree that all the Josephs have suffered from some awful songs to different degrees.

I spoke to someone who knows Chris Crosby and she said that he wasn't happy with the Maroon5 song at all, he even asked to change it but the powers that be wouldn't let him. It's a shame because from his fabulous Close Every Door (still remains to be one of the best) to me I think he could have been a great contender.

Song choice is crucial. But who has suffered the most? IMO Daniel had some pretty awful ones, what MALE musical theatre performer would want to sing a Kelly Clarkson song? Lewis still hasn't been given a halfway interesting song that doesn't include falsetto.

Then you have the (quite frankly) obvious pushings out of Anthony and Rob by giving them Take That songs, which have- yes you've guessed it: Falsetto.

I for one would like to see these talented guys shown off to their best abilities. Challenged in ways that are relevant to the part that they are auditioning for (i'm pretty darn sure Joseph doesn't have to sing in freakin' falsetto thats for sure). Do the beeb not think this would make good tely or something? I think it would be better tely to see 12 lads singing brilliantly every week. But maybe thats just me

Jacko I totally agree with you , I mean it isn't flipping X factor they are auditiong for. But, I wonder if this is for audience watchablility factor. I haven't watched grease but wonder if they too are singing pop songs?

By the way you are spot on about Chris Coles performance. i think with the right songs he could have gone far

I think they are but that is different because Grease really is quite 'pop-y'.

Totally agree with you. I have always said that Daniel had the worst songchoices with Lewis close behind. According to the interview that Daniel did for DigitalSpy they even wanted him to do a Scissor Sisters song but after a few rehearsals realised it was totally wrong for him. I really think that songchoice is extremely important and can make or break someone in this competition and it is clear that some are being more favoured than others. At this stage of the competition I think they should all be singing theatre songs anyway but I doubt if that is going to happen.

I think that all the remaining contestants have had some bad song choices along the way maybe with the exception of Keith.

I do think that they need to give Keith a song where he really needs to act out the song and preferably move a bit more than Saturdays song

I think lewis is starting to look lost in the group performances. his lack of theatrical acting and dancing skills were very much in evidence. He is very talented with a wonderful voice and hope he gets lots of work on the back of this but he looked lost on Sat and hope he goes soon

He got down to the last few for Billy Elliot. He can't be too bad a dancer. He needs to relax and that will help him a lot.

I think everybody on here would agree that it would be good to hear them all singing theatre songs rather than pop songs......but that just is not going to happen. Which is a shame. ADWD should show case the songs of musical theatre, to help promote and encourage them (So that the program is not just seen as a free advert for ALW but for all musicals).

Absolutely - there are such a lot of songs out there from musicals, and some are more poppy - you only need to look to shows like 'We Will Rock You' and 'Fame' ... then you have the classics like Les Mis and Phantom. I mean look at how great Daniel and Lewis were singing 'Bring Him Home'. If people don't know of Les Mis and heard them singing that - they may be prompted to want to see the show ....

stephen gately, donnie osmond, philip schofield and jason
donovan had no musical theatre background. it didn't matter.

Seems to me that Keith has had a very easy ride throughout the whole competition and in the last few weeks, Ben has been given songs that are very firmly in his comfort zone.
I think Daniel suffered the most from poor song choices. I think he did a very good job with Evergreen, but it's a banal piece of crap

I would be surprised if you did As a matter of interest, who do you think did worse?

I think its a mixture to be honest, daniel did get some bad songs(mcfly!), so did keith(brown eyed girl), to be honest i don't think the song choices have been overly good full stop.

Well first of all you said that:

And then when I asked you who, in your opinion, did get the worst songs, you said:
Originally Posted by cleo1:

And then you also mentioned Keith and brown eyed girl.

So are you saying that Keith got the worst song choice, or are you saying that him and Daniel did equally badly, or what
cleo1

I mean't that i don't think that daniel got the worst songs - i think all of the contestants have had bad songs equally, The songs i mentioned were just examples that poped into my head.all contestants apart from ben should i say have had bad songs, ben for some reason has been given upbeat songs the last few weeks because he can't do slow songs, where as none of the other contestants have been given such an easy ride.
