Plasma stand .... Help Needed
Hi
Would anyone be able to answer a question concerning stands for Plasma TV's please? Im planning to buy a 50" LG Plasma and im really not taken by the glass stands that are common in the likes of Currys and comet and was wondering if I bought a standard TV unit which could hold the required weight but is only slightly bigger than the footprint of the stand that is supplied with the TV and the tv over hangs by approx 8inches either side, would this matter? VV

No it doesn't matter, but it's obviously far easier to knock it off the stand as you walk past - so it really depends where it's situated.

Flat screen TVs are very narrow and would usually be fixed to the stand. The stand for our 50" plasma has a pair of 4" spikes sticking out the top which fit into the bottom of the TV and are secured with screws. Given the TV weighs about 40kg it's not something you want falling over, so you need to use a support that really integrates with/fixes to the set; I doubt a standard 'unit' would provide that.
Rather than the full cabinet affair that I assume you are referring too, some sets are available with a smaller 'pedestal' stand designed to sit on a table or suchlike - Panasonic suffix them PED (CAB = cabinet and WAL = wall mount). See if your LG has that as an option. |

Thank for your replies everyone .... I did indeed mean I dont want glass, reading the post back it is a bit unclear, sorry.
Anyway we have found a cabinet that we like that will accomodate the weight of the TV with no overhang, so once again thanks for the replies. VV
