When is O2 gonna wake up?
I used to be on O2 a few years ago, I recently got a free SIM from there website to check out the changes since i used them last.
I was disapointed to say the least, same old tariffs, Bolt on etc. Still 40p xnet call charges. Still no full internet access on PAYG. Not one dam thing has changed, most other networks are offering flat rate xnet calls, unlimited net access for £1.00. Everyone has moved on, are O2 stuck in a time void? |

I remember when O2, or rather "BT Cellnet" had 2p per minute calls. They have gone from one of the cheapest to the most expensive network out there.

300 texts for £10 a month was awesome back in the day of Genie when no other networks offered anything free on pay as you go but times have changed, we've seen many tariff changes over the years on the other networks but not really on O2. I know they've added a couple of new things like the more you top up the more mins/texts you get etc but IMO I dont think that lives up to todays standard.
EDIT: Also why haven't they followed the other networks and allow £5 top ups?? |

I think what it is is that so many people had Genie when it was around and since changed to O2 Online and now cos so many people have it they don't wanna change network cos all their mates are on O2.

I had the Genie sims a few years ago. They had unlimited free texts at first. I know this because I sent in excess of 15,000 in just a couple of months. Before they became o2 online, this was reduced to 300 a month. Not long after, the unlimited dial up (915000 shortcode) wap also ended. GPRS access remained entirely free for a while after. But even that became limited to.....
I get 30MB free on 3 now.... Some months I don't even get to use this allowance. o2 need sorting out, and once again they churn out the free sims..... ps.... I tried my old ones earlier and it seems they are no longer active. Bit of a shame really as I may have lost some of my contacts now. |

Same thing happened to me- I sent 2500 in one month and got a stroppy text saying they were limiting me to 600. I was on the genie tariff for ages but O2 kept trying to get me off it- I couldn't send or receive picture messages for example and last year I came off it so I could do this. They then said that I had to pay for the phone I wanted as I had "been on such a good tariff" for so many years. Flipping cheek.

My only gripe with O2 is that they don't offer the £1 a day internet access that T-mobile, Vodafone and Orange do. In fact you can't even do Mobile Web officially on pay as you go.

I must admit though i do sometimes find that messages fail to send sometimes twice or 3 times but normally after the 1st fail they go through when you send again but it doesnt happen that often enough for me to complain about it

Using that 193.113.200.195 proxy really isn't that good for most things. |

I would've said T-Mobile but they bloody content lock everything out. I was using MSN on it by the MSN site but now its locked out. I'm really starting to hate T-Mobile.

I've been on O2 Online PAYG now for the last 3.5 years and while good at first, it does now lack behind other networks in many areas. Though with the current tarrif I'm on, with a £10 top up giving me 100 credits of x-net calls & texts is quite good for a moderate user, I have been looking possibly at going back to Orange again. The main things for keeping me on O2 at the moment are...
The current tarrif I'm on - no other network AFAIK gives a free calls allowance for simply topping up, Orange don't. Most people locally here are on O2 either pay monthly or PAYG. There was a recent document published by Ofcom which stated that O2 have about a 70% user rate in the border areas of N.Ireland. On-net calls are always less hassle to deal with. When I'm in the Irish Republic, to call or receive costs just 35p per minute flat rate. Orange's charges are higher, though I generally have a Meteor sim card for my southern travels. The main thing attracting me to Orange is the Speakeasy with Free Text Trigger, an old Sim Card of mine has recently been changed tarrif to it. 15p a minute isn't too bad across the board - it is still slightly more expensive than T-Mobile with 12p a minute though their coverage is too much of a joke here to seriously consider them, along with the 300+ free texts the following month. Might consider holding on to two phones over a month to see which works out best. |

Nothing is blocked on T-mobile is it? When I go to the main page and search in google I can go to any website I want.

On pay as you go they have content lock. To remove it you need a credit card which I dont have. But its just another reason for me to leave now cos I'm meant to get free evening and weekend texts and even though I've topped up they havent been applied (this is about the 4th time in a year) and also their signal seems to be getting dodgy in my area. I just need to decide what network I wanna go on and get my PAC. It wont be O2 though lol

You have a bank card though don't you? (such as a debit card for taking money out?). This can be used too - they just say credit card as a generic term. If you have a bank account and can pay for stuff by card then you can pay for the content lock to be removed. They refund it too.

I still like my PAYG O2.
Used to cost me a fotune til I went this route. £10 month, you get 300 free texts, 1MB online, O2 treat (15 mins talk time), 10% top up back/3 months. So, are you all saying there are BETTER deals than this for £10 or less ??? If so, it might interest me. |

Yeah I have a solo card but you can't do it by debit card as debit cards are available to under 18s.

If you're over 18 you can go into a T-Mobile retail store to have the content lock removed with another proof of ID.
