According the the online Mirror, ITV have chosen Melanie as Davina's replacement in The Vault, and she will also be presenting Under Pressure.

mirror article

Is the article a harbinger of things to come? Do you think she may be considered as a Big Brother presenter if Davina doesn't want to do any more?

IMO Melanie would do an excellent job presenting BB and would be a perfect stand-in for Davina, if she pops her sprog before BB4 ends.

I'm not sure she would be perfect, but at least she doesn't shout as much as Davina, and she is certainly very beautiful.

Yes, we should be grateful for small mercy ....

My definition of a perfect replacement would equal any Tom Dick or Harry, anyone at all, as long as it is not the rumoured demon blond fang tooth.

I totally agree with you but I feel that the rumours are likely to be true...... for BB4 at least, Kate is the reserve which partly explains her rather convenient appointment as a RI:SE presenter. C4 placed her so that they could ensure that she was available in the event of Davina's unavailability.

Is Melanie Sykes the girl who used to be on the Boddington's Cream of Manchester adverts ?

Where they used to have some exotic location and at the end she'd turn round and say something like " Eee by gum, lad, does tha need a swill ? "

I like her, she talks my language, literally !!

Eh up, lad, that's the one. (Apologies if that's not authentic Mancunian.)

I find her incredibly bland. Kate is infinitely preferable to her as a BB presenter.

Eee by gum, lad,...... What????....... does that mean anything? At times like this I'm so pleased to be a Londoner....

I know.... but you are rather biased in these matters so just trust our judgement on this particular issue....

No I am not. As an unrelated issue to anything big brother, I have never taken to Melanie Sykes. Her show with Des whatever he's called is abysmal. Smile at the camera Melanie, say something funny in your link, make all the old foggies in the audience laugh.

Please. Don't break a fingernail Melanie, whatever you do.

If she's doing Blind Date, The Vault and Des & Mel we'd have the same perception in a year's time, saying she's not good and is on every show.

I think she should stick to a few limited appearences rather than it meaning me getting sick of her.

Yes, she'll be the new Davina. It's ITV trying to create another superstar presenter instead of concentrating on making decent programmes.

This is the first I've heard that Kate is being considered to host BB4.

What a ridiculous idea. She would be completely out of her depth.

Are channel 4 trying to ensure there won't be a BB5?

Sorry Eejay, I was having an Elizabeth moment there (i.e. to Paul: I do not agree). I've had a bath now and cooled off. Do men get pmt 'cos I think I've got it today.

There's depth to what Davina does on BB?

No Blind Date - it's being scrapped.

Can't believe Cilla is bringing us a new dating programme.

Our TV screens are inundated with ladette presenters - Sarah Cox, Zoe Ball, Cat Deeley, Kate Thornton, Tess Daly, Denise, Melanie, Davina, the list goes on, they are all interchangeable.

And there still seems to be more and more clones being nurtured. IMO piping out the same old imitation has become bland.

But where are the young male presenters of any note? All I can think of is Vernon.

There is a serious lack of young male talent on TV. How about some eye candy for us girls? I'd like to see more fit blokes presenting.

Alex is a breath of fresh air in the current state of things on TV.

But unfortunately, Swing, the current situation of the odd guest appearance is just not enough for me although I do have an oasis in the wilderness, WYWH, to look forward to.

What I meant is that to me he is a breath of fresh air amongst the over-abundance of interchangeable ladette-geezer-bird presenters. I didn't mean the type of programmes he has done so far or his under-exposure, but hopefully he will be given the right vehicle that will suit him.

I'd like to see more good looking guys with an original personality on the telly.
