Faint green line on screen, running down centre from top to bottom. Engineer coming tomorrow free of charge as TV is still under warranty. My question is, what's the likely hood of this problem been fixed on the same day? What tools is the engineer equipped with? Will the TV be more likely to be taken away or is it an on the spot job? The reason I'm asking is because I'm a fan of Big Brother and I would like to have the fault fixed in time for launch night on Wednesday, sad as it may be... timing or what?!

Anyone had an engineer out with a similar fault and the TV had to be taken away?

More importantly - What is this fault as it's only just appeared this week and is rather strange, anyone have answers

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you kindly!

Most likely this is a fault with the actual LCD panel itself, this isn't an in home repair job and generally requires the set to be taken to the workshop for repair.

There's a slight chance it could be the main PCB but it's highly unlikely and also highly unlikely that the 'engineer' would have the part on his van anyway.

It is quite a common fault with LCD TV's though, not just Samsung.

Perhaps he didn't?, but it's almost certainly(99+%) the LCD panel that's duff - a single line of pixels is a common fault on LCD, with Plasma you get an inch wide line instead, which is FAR more distrubing to your viewing!

he said it was the equivalent to the tubes going on a CRT television and it needs replacing.

Thank goodness it's not an inch wide line then! I have to say, when the engineer did arrive it took the right programme to really make it show up as it is faint but when you pay out a lot of money on a TV like this, it's one thing you can be doing without, however faint the line may be.

Yes, it needs repairing - it's not as bad as a 1 inch 'line', but it's still very annoying - certainly while it's under guarantee it needs doing!.

Incidently, where did you get the set from?, and who came out? - presumably the engineer was from the retailer?, and not from a Samsung service agent?.

I got the set from comet, just as I did with Sky HD and this very laptop I'm writing this reply on now And, yes you're right, it was an engineer from the retailer and not a samsung service agent.
