Hi, complete newbie here so i hope you will bear with me!!

I have just made the jump to a new HD ready LCD TV it is an AOC 32" LCD HD TV Model: L32W551T (from www.teleland.co.uk great price with 5 year gaurantee) any way at present I have sky digital not sky+ or HD and a dvd player and an old video recorder.

I have it set up at the moment with sky digital tv out to the TV via scart socket 1, the dvd player via scart to tv socket 2 and then sky video out to video via scart, all is fine got a good picture on sky and DVD when watching either sky or dvd.

my question now is:-

I want to get rid of old video recorder and old dvd player and replace with a dvd recorder probably weith a hard drive. I don't need a digital tuner on the dvd recorder as my arial on the house cannot receive digital and as i am paying for sky i dont think i need to worry about it.

If i buy a dvd recorder which will upscale normal dvd's if i set it up so that i use sky tv out via scart to dvd recorder scart in then dvd recorder hdmi out to tv hdmi out will i get a better picture with my sky then using just the ordinary scart to scart from sky to tv? also what would you recommend for the DVD recorder to do the job?

I have been told in another forum that the sky would not upscale but i was just wondering here if anybody knows if this can be done.

thanks in advance

Your TV already upscales Sky anyway, it seems totally pointless trying to feed it through something else that upscales it so the TV has to downscale it to fit the screen.

Similar problem for me, as I am about to leap into the HD ready Plasma TV world but, until funds permit, have to plumb in the existing equipment:

Can I use the RGB Scart tv output from Sky+ box into the A2 input of my Hardrive/DVD recorder, for best recording quality of material I wish to archive, and then the TV/A1 output to the TV using one of the two RGB enabled scart sockets on the Plasma. To play DVD's or view contents of the Hardive/DVD recorder would there be any picture quality benefit to use the component connections that are available on both units?

I wish we could it have mandated that all HD Ready TVs had to be marketed as "upscaling TVs". Perhaps then this obsession with buying upscaling DVD players would have been avoided!!

The issue of double scaling, when the TV doesn't have a native mode of 1920x080 or 1280x720, just seems to be overlooked.

It's a big advertising ploy to sell cheap DVD players for more money! - rather like all the "stereo TV's" that used to be sold - the small print said "from an external stereo source only". 99% of buyers probably never heard stereo through their sets!
