Grrrr Wireless/maybe clueless?!

I've just bought a wireless router, and usb adaptor. All seems to be going well (lights, whistles etc. etc.) except when I go through to the final page of the set up wizard, computa sez noo. I've got it plugged it into the STB, but for some reason it says "unable to establish ADSL connection" on the final page of the routers wizard page. Any thoughts would be very welcome before I though the thing out of the window (closely followed by me...)

Does the router power up the STB?

Just a thought but Homechoice is not ADSL, my wired router is a cable one and should be the same for wireless.

Sounds like you bought an adsl router, rather than an ethernet/cable router...

Indeed, wrong sort of router.

It's a Talk-Talk SNA5630NS 05 - "special offer" although I fear it now seems a complete waste of time

That's a philips adsl modem/router... you need a cable/ethernet router.

Ahh... many thanks for putting me on the right track, a final question though - is the USB adaptor any good (even with a cable router, or would that need to be replaced also?

The USB adaptor should be fine to use with a cable router.
Check out ebuyer.co.uk they have some good offers... You get £10 off if your order is over £30 and you use google checkout

Many thanks for that! I've managed to borrow a neighbour's router to try it out and that's fine even with the USB adaptor, but I can't get it to connect securely, even though all the right boxes are ticked and confirmed. When I perform a scan, the network name comes up but no "security key" next to it. Also when I check my network connections, there's no padlock against the wireless icon. Thanks to everyone for putting up with my lack of knowledge. I think it's probably best if I move over to the "Networking" thread, that's after I had a break (me not the machine that is?!) I've troubled you all here enough and am very grateful indeed

I was unable to set up a secure connection with the wireless router with my sons new computer which had Vista. It works unsecured, not ideal though.

I am new with Tiscali Tv since 01.05.07 and appears okay with me as i cannot get other providers due to listed and conservation legislations. I am happy withit with broadband.

I had the above ADSL Router from my AOL and hoping that I could use it.

Can anyone possibly let me know if it will work. If not any suggestions? I do not want to spend another amount of money to get wireless.

As the bottom line stands, I need be wireless at home

As the other poster said, No it will not work. Sell it and get a cable type router with no ADSL.
