but that wouldnt necessarily be apparent through their music if however it was say apparent through excessivly hate mongering lyrics, then no it probably wouldnt wouldnt be the type of music id listen to (unless it had a nice funky groove) how does anyone know that johny X from generic band 27 isnt a racist or homophobe if he keeps his personal opinions to himself Quote:
* Good live act (lots of passion) does that mean you dont listen to bands unless youve seen them live?* Good meaningful lyrics, and * Level headedness you realise that theres alot of music out there that simply cannot be performed live, and many many fine artists who are sadly rideing the big tour bus in the sky lyrics, yeah agreed but surely thats part of their music, oh and again, not all music has lyrics at all level headedness, im not sure exactly what you mean, but most musicians by their very nature arent level headed (otherwise theyd be sat behind a desk earning their minimum wage) |

mostly the actual music, if it has a good melody which i really enjoy then i'll like it.
Im one of those people that automatically blank out the lyrics...whenever i hear a song i like i hardly ever know what the lyrics are! My brain seems to parse em out!

No way. Most of the bands that I like are way before my time. But if I see a new band, say at a local gig, I look for (obviously their musical ability) but also the attributes that I listed earlier. They're important to me. May not be to you, or Joe Bloggs, but that's just my personal opinion.Quote:
level headedness, im not sure exactly what you mean,
I can't stand bands or band members who love themselves and think that they're Gods, that can't do anything wrong. I hate obnoxious *****, the type of arrogant prick that Axl Rose is. Great music, but he's a complete ****** which takes the shine of their music. You see what I'm getting at?

Good melody, strong hooks and rythmic, but not loads of syncopation, some, but not a lot. also lyrically good, but not essential. depends on the music really.
eg Contempary Avril Lavigne. Historically sixties/seventies rock. I dont care what they are like as people, unless they do illegal stuff that harms others. |

For me it's mainly originality. I like things I haven't heard before.
Also... production. Lo-fi or ultra-slick, whatever... if it's good its good. For instance, Radiohead's Kid A has the most amazing production ever, not too over the top. But I also like lo-fi, American stuff like Grandaddy and Sparklehorse. Don't really care about lyrics. But mainly originality. |

1. Songs that make me FEEL something (other than boredom or nausious).
2. Good lyrics (though that is very strongly tied to 1) 3. That they seem like decent chaps/chapesses I'm not really partricularly fnas of bands or performers, generally it's songs, but people I would sya I'm interested in - ie in more than just buying a single or album - it's because they combine music I like with a personality I feel interested in. |
