I do because there's nothing worse than having a text wake me up in the middle of the night (not that anyone texts me that late anyway!)

But I was having a conversation with my friend this AM, who complained of being woken up at 1am this morning by someone ringing her from a withheld number. I asked why doesnt she just turn her phone off and she said she didnt want to miss out on anything. I questioned exactly what and she said texts etc which she couldnt wait to read or reply to until the morning!

I can understand leaving phones on for emergencies or if you're on call, but just for texts??

Thoughts please!!

During the week I turn it off and at the weekend I normally leave it on but downstairs in the living room out of earshot.

I switch my phone off at night. If somebody needs to text me then it'll just have to wait!

On most phones the alarm clock still works even when it's swtiched off.

Like some of the others, there's a possibility I'll get a call from work overnight so mine has to stay on.

That said the only time it's ever gone off overnight was a text from a drunk mate!

My old phone used to do this but my new one doesn't. As I found out to my cost one morning...

I leave it on all the time, but then everybody is in bed before me. I'm probably one of those that texts late on

I leave it on, but on silent. If im fast asleep and my phone goes off, it gets caught up in my dream and something starts to shake and go 'Bzz, bzz, bzz' :|

A few weeks ago i got 3 calls at 0152, 0157, 0203 All withheld. I could hear people on the other end so i just accepted the call and wasted their money.....

And then when i woke up in the morning i got 60 texts all coming at once

Mine is on 24/7, I bung it on charge every couple of days. I must admit I don't use it very often now, it's only used for work purposes.

I rarely have my mobile switched on and I usually keep the ringer on my landline switched off unless I am expecting a call. Unless someone is on call for work or there is a family emergency they do not need to be contacted 24/7. It is a blight of the 21st century that people seem to feel the need to have their mobiles switched on to receive inane messages which could wait until the meal, get together with friends etc is over. Sad, sad people. Good manners means you should be focussing all your attention on your friends/ family when you go out. To have your phone switched on, other than for genuine emergencies, is on a par to always looking over your shoulder when speaking to someone at a party, indicating that their company is insufficient to hold your attention.

You got pranked ... Still, the joke's on them.

I leave mine on cos it's too much hassle to muck around turning it on and off.

I have clocks for that! But phone can be useful too.

I leave it on - I charge it at night and then use it as an alarm in the morning. I don't get called often enough for there to be a problem with leaving it on.

If I'm out with friends/family at a meal or cinema or something similar, I put my phone on silent. My friend (the same one) checks her phone every 10 mins or so to check if she has missed a text. We went to Ikea once and she even took her old phone out with her because battery on her new phone was low so if it went dead, she could change it. It did go dead just before we left and she did change it
