There is a double page spread promoting Kate as 'the big brother babe who is set to be hottest totty on tv', in today's Daily Star newspaper.

I dislike that word 'totty' almost as much as I dislike Kate!
Does anyone know 'its' history in this context?

Totty : sexually alluring female, originally a prostitue ( 19th century )

here's a cracking reference site, dictionary of UK slang and colloquialisms -

You know swing, I'm going to stop using google. For the sheer amount of obscure websites you come up with, I really think its much easier just to ask you !

btw Kate is NOT a strumpet

Of course she's not a Strumpet tally. She is not alluring and I'm sure she doesn't charge......

BTW thanks for the warning skibo.....

Ally Ross of the NOTW goes to town on 'reality tv no-marks' constantly clogging up our television screens. Last week he slated The Club saying it was the worst programme ever - now he apologises and awards that distinction to 'Russian Roulette' and Rhona Cameron.

He gives it quite a thrashing and refers to those taking part last week namely Lance Gerard-Wright, Noreen 'Colon', Alex Sibley and Feltz... as 'glitterati' .

He states that progammes like these are the real menace of 'the continuing spread of reality tv no-marks into every nook and crevis of our daily tv life.'

Keith Duffy (Corrie) Les Dennis (Crossroads, Casualty), Sue Perkins & Kate Lawler (RI:SE) Anne Diamond (nothing) plus the whole Claire Sweeney phenomenon.

It really confirms a point Swingaleg mentioned earlier that the same people are monopolising our screens, remove them..and who are we left we?

I'm not sure I did make that point, FQ, because I don't really agree with it ( doesn't mean I didn't say it, though )

There is a lot of TV out there

By choice I have watched BB and I'm A Celeb and haven't watched The Club, The Salon, Pop Idol, Pop This, Pop That or any other time consuming reality TV show

If it wasn't for the fact that I sometimes specifically watch a programme, eg Boys & Girls, to see someone from BB or I'm A Celeb, then I would never see these people again once the reality show finishes. They might be all over TV, but the fact is that they are all over only one strand of TV, ie breakfast & daytime stuff, celeb shows, E4 teenage things

In the normal course of events I never watch any of these and I'm sure millions of other people don't either

If you want to watch your staple TV diet of news, docus, drama series, sit-coms, sport, you wouldn't know who any of these people are

So I cant agree that they infest every nook and cranny of TV. You have to go looking for them to see them

Plus all those other people with no discernible talent who have, nevertheless, been on our TV screens for years, in some cases decades. Why?

Sorry Tally...........what about 'floosie' instead. That quite suits her as well!

PS: You must allow me to name call, if she is to become a successful, omnipresent, tv face Its the least you can do!

Agreed but our fascination with 'these people' have made the television companies employ them in preference to those who may be more deserving.

Sorry Swing, I thought I'd read a post of yours earlier which alluded to this (smacks wrists)

Of course you can name call. I do it all the time. It's just that my ones for Sandy would get me banned

How about aspiring, up and coming young presenter. Ooops, that's Alex. Kate's already a presenter

In the context of the article, which was virtually a whole page, there was no need to put Alex's name in bold.
His name appeared once only at the beginning in the list of contestants on last week's RR, this being the example for the discussion of reality show contestants to come.
Despite the slating which followed of many reality contestants we have come to know, Alex was not mentioned again or slated in any way.

Maybe Faequeen put Kate in bold due to her part in the article:
.............."the continuing spread of reality TV no-marks into every crevice of our daily TV life.
Keith Duffy (Corrie), Les Dennis (Crossroads, Casualty), Sue Perkins and Kate Lawler (RI:SE), Ann Diamond (Nothing). Plus the whole Claire Sweeney phenomenon.
No good comes of it. "
These were the examples given in the article.

Maybe that puts it more into context for you.

I did read the entire article in the 'newspaper' but it was the Claire Sweeney phenomenon that drew my attention in particular.

That bit is so true. I can still hardly credit it. She didn't even win yet there were BB3 contestants discussing it in the house who thought she had! Her profile was elevated into the stratosphere.

She seems like a nice girl, but Vera Lynn.... I don't think so
