I have a HD ready LG plasma and Sky HD. Have bought an LG home cinema system today but cannot get any sound from the Sky box. Can someone help with connections? (the home cinema box doesn't have an optical connection)

What model LG system?

Bet it's either the LG LHT360SE or LHT550TB?

Neither of these systems have an optical input, so there will be no way of getting the DD5.1 sound from Sky HD.

If your model is the LG LHT550SE you should be able to get surround sound if you connect the Sky box up via the scart, then selecting TV audio on the remote.

If it's the LGLHT360SE I'm afraid you out of luck, even for surround sound.

Thanks, the model is LHT550TB and no, it doesn't have an optical input.

Can you explain to me how to connect up the tv, surround sound and sky box ie what goes into what with which cables? Or do I need to buy an amplifier?

Thanks

For best picture quality you will need to connect the player to the TV via component, remember to flick the switch at the rear of the player to component though. For the audio you will need to to connect the audio outs on the back of the Sky box to the audio inputs on the sound system. You will need to press AUX on the remote to replay the audio from Sky through the system. This will give surround sound. To get DD5.1 from Sky you will need a receiver/amp with at least 1 optical input.

To carry out the about you will need a set of component cables and a pair of stereo phonos.
