And then when they praise them people assume they are safe. Look at week 2 - Chris B got amazing comments and then ended up with the lowest votes...

It seems that it can work either way. Sometimes it certainly seems to lead to fans of that contestant panic-voting, but on other occasions voters do seem to listen to the panel. Or maybe it just seems that way!

I disagree people can be taught to sing but star quality and stage presence is ..........well it just is....you have it or you don't. You can learn stage craft and acting technique but that something you get when you light up a stage as Ben does is just innate and special.
Don't forget we are talking about Joseph here hardly the most amazing vocally challenged theatre piece. it was originally for children. My friend is very knowledgeble in music and always goes on about Ben's vibratto which she says can be fixed but sadly not overnight

I think you're right to some extent. I suppose in view of the show opening in only a few weeks, the issue is what aspect of performance we're willing to sacrifice (unless Lee wins - he has the whole package
). For me, singing is the most important thing, and I'd much rather see someone a bit awkward on stage but who performs well. I'm guessing you feel differently. As I've already said, though, ideally I wouldn't want to sacrifice any aspect! And although Joseph may not be the most difficult part vocally, it will still sound better sung by a better singer, if that makes sense...

I agree with You! but I think it is now "sad" as we get to this stage to have one thread attacking one young guy, who has so much to lose.
To make it fair do we start three other threads why Keith, Lee and Lewis should not be in.

Yes, this is the crux of the problem, because I have a slightly different attitude. I would be very disappointed to go to a show and find that the lead, though a wonderful singer was a poor actor. I'd prefer to make a small amount of sacrifice on the singing for a more rounded performance. I suppose the only question I have to ask my self is how much of a sacrifice I'd be willing to make for great acting, presence and movement? It's all about horses for courses I suppose!

i would agree if there was no one left in the comp that you wouldn't need to compromise for - but Lee has the acting and stage ability plus the vocal ability - so with him, no compromise.

Well absolutely, he has the total package. You know I am a Lee fan and want him to win. It gets more interesting when it comes to my second choice, because the other three contestants all have their limitations, IMO, and I have to decide what I'm willing to sacrifice.
Ben is still in the show, because he has charisma and stage presence. He is enthusiastic, ambitious, courageous and entertaining. He is also self confident and highly entertaining. He may not have the strongest voice, but last Saturday, didn't do his voice justice. He should still be there and I'm glad he is, just because I enjoy watching him.
When is this pointless thread going to be closed! it is just being used by a few fans of another contestant to try and discredit BEN!
The criteria set out at the start of ADWD was clearly set out for someone fresh with a pop image like Justin Timberlake, BEN still fits that role! - if ALW still intends to present a NEW & FRESH JOSEPH!

The support of BEN is working very quietly in the background and going very well, I hear good reports too about Keith and Lewis! - watch out there could be a shock!
I have only just watched Saturday's show. I was glad he kept Ben in. I am not a fan of his as such but I think he has the best stage presence of the remaining Josephs and he acts the part. Ok, so Crying (and it is a difficult song to sing male or female) did not sound great but he acted it and gave a passionate performance. So, I can see why he's still in. Craig IMO has not improved much - despite getting special attention from Bill - over the last month and I was surprised he was still there up until Sat. This is just my penny's worth.

I think you and me pretty much have the same view on this. It is all down to what a person feels is most important in a performance. I think that is why so many people are divided on Ben and also Keith to a certain extent. They are both two different sides of the coin as it were. Keiths voice with Ben's performance skills would give you a great contestant.
As it is Lee is the full package and you wouldn't have to sacrifice anything with him, IMO he is an even fuller package than Connie was.
