Evening folks

I've just bought a SONY 40KDL V2500. I've updated the ariel with a '20' or 'multiband' Digital ariel (it cost me £75.00) and I run the ariel cable into the TV via my HUMAX 9200t DUOVISION. I also have a signal booster for the ariel. On the Humax I get a signal strength of around 80% with 100% quality.

Picture on TV is excellent on most freeview channels - with the exception of the football (which ranges from good to bad depending upon the channel).

Picture via HUMAX is not as good as the TV.

Did consider the GOODMANS HDMI box - but rightly put off in other forums.

Am I being greedy or can anyone advise me as to get an even better picture?

It's digital so provided you've got a good enough signal which is error free, upgrading the aerial or adding a signal booster won't make any difference to the picture quality.

The reason for the difference between channels is that they are transmitted in different resolutions and with varying amounts of bandwidth allocated, depending on how many channels have been squashed together by that particular broadcaster.

This can mean that during fast moving action (i.e. sports or movies) you end up with pixellation at times as there simply isn't enough bandwidth available to display the image. Typically you'll find that ITV for example is noticably worse than the BBC channels when showing similar content, this is entierly due to way the channel is being transmitted and there isn't really much you can do about it.

Using a seperate set-top box with HDMI is also unlikely to make much difference. All it does is upscales the video which is something your TV already does itself (most probably better than the set-top box does).

Make sure you have the Humax connected via RGB SCART, often only one of the TV sets SCART's accepts RGB!.
