Sending an MMS from a foreign network to a UK network (O2)

I recently moved out to Italy and would still like to send MMS's to my friends that dont have pc's of their own.

If i try sending an MMS to a Uk mobile (all on O2), i get charged for it, but they never receive it, in any sort of way.

When they send me an MMS, it kindly sends me an SMS to go to the O2 website where i can view/hear it which is fine.

Before i left the UK i called O2 up about this as my dad has been over here a while and they told me that it wouldn't work because all the networks aren't compatable yet and it was kind of like how SMS's were in the early 90's.

My main point being does anybody know a way how i could send MMS's. I use Skype and that sends SMS's but not MMS. Is there a VOIP around that can do MMS, or if there is an Italian network MMS compatible with O2.

I am on the I-Wind network (LOL, i couldn't stop myself laughing when i first saw it)

Any help would be very grateful

I am living in Hong Kong right now, and I notice that in the specification for the Vodafone MMS service, it says that people living in certain countries will receive MMSs directly on their handset, when sent from here. The UK isn't one of them!

In the case of the UK, apparently they get sent a weblink which they can go to to see the photo. Bit naff really.

Yes that is what i get, when they send me MMS's from the UK.

But when i send one, they get nothing, no web link, nothing....

And they charge me for it too

I used to get regular mms sent to me, also on o2 pay n go at the time, from The Philippines and received them on my phone with no trouble at all. Strangely, I got the odd one sent FROM the UK that appeared on my handset as a web link.

A look at this link will give you details of the networks in Italy, together with their services offered and roaming partners worldwide.
